You inspired me...View attachment 1246806Threw some chicken on the Traeger. What temp do you cook the chicken to? I usually go 185. I've wondered if it would be more fall off the bone if I brought it up to 195-200.
I do them to 170. Chicken is safe to eat at 160 regardless of what part as per USDA . Meat is well into the fall off the bone because it’s held between 150-170 for a long period unlike oven or grilling at high temps .

When you get too much above that temp the meat tends to dry out . If I were to make pulled chicken I would wrap it it foil with some Apple juice to help keep it moist .

I do this with brisket also I finish it in my oven at 205 for about two to three hours tented in foil in a baking pan with no salt beef broth this is when the brisket hits 205 internal temp on the smoker. Haven’t done one in a while because it’s a long day

Found a funnel in the woods and tons of deer sign. Then the wife whispered, that one’s watching us

By the time I got the camera out, it ran off

But I’ll be back next fall…..

Bottom x is the parking spot (so I could navigate us back…..)

Top X is a straight oak to put my climber in!!

The little guy and I went on what he called a “firewood tour” today to see what we all have to cut up and or split this spring. The conclusion was we have our work cut out for us !!

This pile goes back 20’ or so. Bunch of soft cottonwood and other junk though.
IMG_3215.jpeg

Bunch of oak and ash on these piles. Excited for this stuff.
IMG_3217.jpeg

Bunch of poplar, ash, elm, basswood, cottonwood, and ironwood on this pile.

Last pile is all red/white oak. The big stuff on the left will be milled into lumber.

Managed to get the new cylinder on the splitter, put my boy to work tightening bolts up on the pusher plate. The new cylinder turned out to be about 3" longer then the old cylinder, even with the rear yoke being 1" shorter. Which closed my 4" gap from the push plate to wedge to 1". Shouldn't be an issue. I only had the gap, since the beam was too short for a 30" stroke cylinder and I can fit a 28" split in the furnace of I wanted to. The shenandoah can only take a 24" split anyway.
I will say the cylinder fly back in with that 3.5" rod. Actually so fast, I stalled the engine when I first went to test it. Just had it off idle thinking going real slow would be good to check everything before taking it to full speed. Everything looks like it will be just fine and lined up good. I'll clean up and take it out and split some wood tomorrow after work.

Enjoy him now, in a blink of an eye….

He’ll grow and you won’t know where the time went.
No kidding. He’s the youngest at 7 with two older sisters being 10 and 12. It’s bonkers how big they’ve gotten in the blink of an eye. It’s not all bad as they’re all running machinery in the farm and being helpful.

The eldest is a great operator and probably has more seat time in the lawnmower than I do. She’s always doing something on it.

Jim, the right one has been quirky for a few years and then this year skiing with my daughter….

I tried to be young again and it’s now in pretty rough shape

Just walking I can feel something flopping around in there. It only hurts when I push it for a bit and then burns afterwards

My dad used to tell me when I was younger to not abuse them, but every teenager thinks they’re invincible. Just took me to 40 to realize I’m not….

20 and 15 for my girls

15 will be 16 this summer and pushing hard for a Mustang for her first car

I think she hangs out with someone too much 🤣🤣
Get her a Camaro 😆.

I'll be testing mine in a couple days, should be a good time.
The guys used to always say not to jump off the flatbed trailers (some are pretty high), I made sure to use my arms to slow myself down a bit, when my knees go my shoulders probably will too lol.

Nice lawnmower…
Thanks !! It has a buddy so neither of them get lonely. It was a “buy two get two for the price of two” deal. Couldn’t go wrong really. The left one is Pops, right one is mine. I ordered mine and he says “if my dang kid can have one so can I”. So now there are two 😂
