Yesterday was dock take-out for the rowing team. Bunch of teenagers in chest waders in 50° water taking floating dock sections out.
I spent the morning winterizing our launch motors. Say what you will about Made-in-USA, but these 15Hp Honda four-strokes are a dream to work on. And essentially bomb-proof.
Although, when changing the lower unit oil & checking the back of thrust washers, I discovered this little gem.

The prolonged dry spell here in the Hudson Valley has created a situation with which I am not too familiar… Namely truly dry firewood!
I burn social fires in a fireplace with a heatilator and no way to control the draft. Firewood is stacked outside on racks and any rain/snow that gets under the wide soffit is free to land on the wood. High humidity works on it too.
I was used to stacking several logs on the fire and have them burn at a moderate pace. Now… if I do that I end up with a raging fire! The new fire lay is a couple logs laying side by side and when they burn down I add one.
It’s a new world! Lots of wildfires in the area too.

Picked up this gem the other day . Old Signal Corps US Army meter made by Gruen watch company . Made in USA
People moving south got a few various hand tools too . Mostly older Stanley and craftsman American made items . They had a few boxes out at the curb for free so of course I scrounged them

Split most of that dead oak from the neighbors house last evening before me and my logging buddy ran to the mill to grab the 2"x3"x10' sticks for the wall between the main shop and little room. Real nice pine log, turned out 23 of them. Just one has a nasty knott in it. Need to rearrange the shop again and get the wood working stuff back out. I'm pretty stoked to be getting this done. It's the last part I needed to have roughed in so I can start running power in that room. Good news is, it shouldn't take too long to get the walls up. Some time next week, or the week after I should have a load of knotted pine boards to pick up, going to put them up ship lap style in the ceiling of the little room. My logging buddy seemed to think I should be doing the entire room in it, which I agreed would look awesome, but the cost would be crazy. Properly end up putting short rock on the walls. (Which I will equally hate to finish, but oh well.)

The sun sucked it right out of the pile as it dried. Stack it so that it is leaning inwards away from the sun.
The shaft has been twisted.

Have long time friends at Upper Greenwood Lake, NJ. Photos I’ve seen have fire on the north side of Greenwood Lake so they could be at risk… I’ve been looking for updates….

I just heard from my friend. At this point he’s concerned but not panicking as the best he can tell the fire is about 10 miles away with water in between. If the wind carrries embers across the water that distance can shrink fast… the fire would travel uphill.
