Got a few of those noisy buggers as residents here. Kids live watching them run up and down trees. One in particular has been standing dead right in the other side of the property line for years now. The peckers have hokes poked all over it.
Nice! We get them as regular visitors here in SWPA as well.

Yeah, they're a pretty neat bird to have around and at the same time can be a pain in the ass. Especially when they start banging on your aluminum gutters.Got a few of those noisy buggers as residents here. Kids live watching them run up and down trees. Looks fun to me .a wise choice...standing snags are one of the most dangerous, unpredictable critters in our forests. EAB has created these disasters broadly. Take care... walking away is a good call.
Sunday, while volunteer working on restoration in local Forest Preserve I came across a snag HANGING FROM ANOTHER TREE... (we've been dealing with dead Ash from EAB for years) Now dead leaners is dangerous enough but this one is free swinging - off the ground! 55 tall, 12" dab. so maybe ~ 600# of mystery... (it's been refereed to FP's resource dept to deal with...as it's to worrysome that some one like kids might start swinging it) (note there are a couple of others in the background that will be left to Natures time)
Congrats, nice looking deer. Your helper looks to be having a great time too .Got a nice one first morning of rifle season
