Same here... not used to powder! I just measured it again and we are up to 4". The roads were very slick while driving from mom's back to my house. This as earlier this afternoon it got up to about 35° and the snow that was falling melted... then it froze. Fortunately I was able to use well salted "designated snow routes" for much of the trip. On the other roads any stop or go, or even accelerating a bit out of a curve, resulted in the anti-lock brakes and traction control being triggered.
What? No people to do that?
I guess times have changed... at the dealerships where I worked in the '70s and '80s we had one or more "lot boys" to do the shoveling and plowing. They did a lot of other things too... e.g., check in new car deliveries, plate changes, DMV, clean snow off the inventory, ferry customers, etc.

Figures the bird flu came from Green Chimneys!!! And that is NOT a wild goose.
I would not mind getting stuck at the cabin, but we did not have any problems getting out. Timing would have been bad ... I have a dental appt tomorrow and my wife's aunt (103) fell and fractured her hip and is in the hospital. My wife is the only family member looking out for her and is pressuring the hospital not to release her prematurely. Plus, I have to shovel and plow the driveway.
As for food, my daughter brought extra, lots of canned stuff and oatmeal up there, and good deer sign on the property. We also spotted a weasel going in and out from under the woodshed, which explains why we did not see any evidence of mice!
It was cold, windy, overcast and kept snowing each day. About 8" when we got up there. Since there were 4 of us, I put the ATV on the trailer (instead of in the bed). The Bizzaks had to work a bit, but they got us up there!
We cleared some of the trails with the ATV and chainsaw, brought a lot of wood into the cabin, went for a hike, and shot several guns. My little granddaughter is quite the Annie Oakley! At about 25 yds, with my 10/22, she was able to hit tiny toy soldiers almost every shot! Her brother and I were shaking our heads!

I've been there... One time the lot guys had a long handle squeegees for clearing the snow off vehicles. After one storm the sun came out and the remaining snow melted and the surfaces dried. It was discovered that dozens, if not hundreds of cars had scratches on them. It turns out someone replaced a bolt on one of the squeegees with one that was too long.
They pretty much burned up a used late model Caddy one time too while cleaning snow... I don't recall all the details but the short story is they forgot to turn the car off and with the snow restricting air flow around the catalytic converter it got so hot the carpet caught on fire and it was down hill from there.And yes... things got hit by the plow operators. By spring the plow trucks almost always had to go through the body shop. As I recall they were new vehicles and showed on the floor plan as new vehicles in demo use. They were sold as such.
We had a rash of VIN plates stolen over a period of months when I was maybe 20 and worked in the sales office. Every time it happened the dash pads had to be replaced as the thieves wrecked them. DMV also had to assign a new VIN to the vehicles. The cost of each instance was below the insurance deductible. Cumulatively the theft related losses added up the many thousands of dollars per month... That came out of the net profit. As such management was eager to stop that problem! Part of my pay was based on the net profit too so it mattered to me too! Managers and state police staked the place out at night repeatedly and never caught anyone. I happened to drive through the lot with my girlfriend on a Sunday afternoon to show her a unique car that came in. As we were going through the lot she saw someone inside a car and told me... I looked and could see the dash pad was off. I kept going and circled around the building so as to not alert the thief. I used a pay phone in a nearby hotel to call the state police (this was WAY before cell phones!). While I was making the call my girlfriend observed the guy walk through the lot and drive off in a Caddy that was parked near the back of the lot. I met a swarm of troopers and deputies in the lot and gave them a vehicle description. They caught him with tools and VIN plates... and the Caddy was a stolen car too! He talked. It turns out that the thieves were almost always doing the thefts during day light hours! Brazen!! Ultimately a stolen car ring was broken up. The thefts and forged paperwork was done in NY (and NJ I think) and the cars had been ending up in NC and SC. One thing that kind of pissed me off was the owner was mad that I didn't detain the thief on the spot... yeah right! That was a few years before I got my CCW and I was basically a kid. I saw that the thief was easily 6" taller than me when I identified him...

Just about done
Went to clear the vehicles off of snow this morning, and noticed i had a half flat tire on the jetta. Begrudgingly took it off. Have the shop packed with the kubota and snow blowers atm. Found a tiny little screw jammed between the tread. Could hardly get the plug reamer in it the hole was so small. Went out and stuck it back on. Good to go.
Also started to clear the snow off the solar panels. Amazing how fast they melt even if you just get 1/4 of the panel showing.
I'm sick of snow already lol.

Winters have been mild here the last few years in South Eastern Pennsylvania but happy to have taken my daughters out sledding today. Four inches or so of light, fluffy snow.
Loving every minute of this while my girls are still young.

Got down to -20° here. Warmed all the way up to -19° so far.
-11 at home and -23 at our cabin up north. It should be mid twenties by the end of the the week. That's gonna feel warm!
It’s a little after 8 AM here and it has warmed up 1° F to 4° F… This polar vortex thing is a rare case of the forecast being right!
