50 here now, and we are usually a bit cooler than the surrounding areas when there's still snow on the ground being that the river valley acts like a cooler. I saw it was 51 here a couple hrs ago, and I saw 54 near the state capital (lansing) earlier today, I was a bit surprised as they weren't calling for that warm. Then again, they often get it wrong.
Hoping it stays a bit warmer so I can get the ceiling in the welding/ fab area of the barn(it's a 16' section of the lean-to that's 12' wide. Got the partition wall up and I'm building the last section on the exterior that's keeping me from putting up j-channel and the ceiling, then I can heat this area along with the main bay.
How's the plans coming for yours.
Partition wall.

One more small section of wall I'm adding 2" of insulation to now, it will be installed shortly.

Looking into the welding/fab area from the main.

I have a guy coming out on Thursday to look at the site . They need to look at it to see if there are any logistical problems like not being able to get the trucks in . Have the excavator all ready to roll as soon as the weather breaks.

Yes we are back to talking about maple syrup-one of the main pillars of focus for this thread :)

I normally like a real dark syrup (darker than dark amber, what they used to call grade B) but a friend had given me some fancy grade made up here in MN and man that is the most rich buttery tasting syrup I've ever had.

Forgot to add my neighbor who owns about 45 acres asked me if I would be interested in the 15 acre plot that abuts mine . I told him yes depending on price of course. He’s toying with downsizing and would rather not sell it to someone that would build a McMansion on it. I don’t want that either

Today I installed mirrors on my tractor loader. I made up some mounting plates welded to angle iron pieces. The one factory mirror that I have is too low to be useful. For some reason the left side of my tractor has more vibration than the right side. The right side is pretty steady. The left one is pretty blurry. The mirrors will swing in if hit. I may have to install smaller mirrors.
How’s that Kioti holding up for you?

My nephew lives on a hobby farm with a handful of cows and horses and goats and pigs and such
Think 48acres

Sent his pals Kiotis trans to the moon brush hogging

I wanted one due to the price point until I learned that!

So far my Kioti has been pretty good except for a bad turbo and DEF canister under warranty. It has almost 1600 hours on it now. I had the issue with my motor losing power at 770 hours. Kioti said that there was something mixed in with my fuel. CAT tested the fuel and said it was contaminated. My fuel smelled really raunchy. The motor was junk with too much cylinder clearance. It cost me a new motor. Kioti covered the install costs and all other items needed. If it happens again I'm all set because I have a motor in stock with under 800 hours on it. This is out of a burnt 2021 Kioti that I bought last year for $400. My hydro unit has been flawless. There were a few people that had issues with the oil filter housing being porous. The hydraulic pump was sucking air and causing bad cavitation with air in the oil. I think that I heard about 2 tractors that needed hydro pump replacement. If you go to Tractorbynet you can research all the info on just about every make of tractor made. I don't do a lot of ground breaking with my tractor. I do have a 6 foot rototiller for it, a 7 foot grader blade, 6 foot box blade, my logging winch, Valby brush chipper, JD 6 foot brush hog, 7 foot Landpride finish mower and all kinds of loader attchments. My Kioti is a NX4510 which is a 45hp machine. It earns its keep. I stole it for $22,500 as a 2 year old leftover. What Kioti model did your nephew blowup the transmission in? Was it a manual or hydro unit?

Next time I’m over there I’ll find out

He was pretty bummed

He has run his step dads JD with out issue so he now thinks this thing is JUNK

I checked the beehives I have on the back of my property today. I have only lost from that apiary. I think the one that does just didn't have a big enough cluster going into winter.
There was still plenty of honey in the hive. I will be able to extract it and use it for something once it's a little warmer outside. I think the unusually long cold weather also contributed to that one colony's demise. They maybe would have survived in a warmer year, but this year was just too cold.
I didn't get a chance to check the hives at the neighbor's woods today. I'm hoping I can get back there later this week or weekend if the weather is good. And as long as it's not too muddy.
I had the same experience today. Checked my 3 hives before the last snow, figuring they might need feeding because we have had so much more cold and snow this year. The hives on each end had a decent cluster but the one in the middle just had a few bees here and there. Made some sugar patties and fed all 3 before the snow, but didn't have much hope for the middle one. Got up near 60 today so I opened them back up. Both the end hives had plenty of bees coming and going and the patties were about gone. Pulled the middle hive apart and all you could see were piles of dead bees and the tails of others sticking out of the cells where they were trying to get the last of the honey. Most years I leave them some honey for the winter and do not need to feed them. This year was just too cold for too long.IMG_6277.jpegIMG_6276.jpegIMG_6275.jpeg

We got a guy that keeps bees at our wholesale parts warehouse

I wonder how his hives did

This is just sad

I've fed a couple of the hives on my place this year. Two of them still have enough honey for probably another month or so. The ones in the neighbor's woods haven't required any feeding...yet. I'm still doing better this year than last. Last year I lost every hive at the neighbor's woods (6) and almost all of them at my place.
There is so much against honey bees. Diseases, farmers' chemical sprays, weather, and careless citizens.

It's sad how few people care about the honey bees. I try to educate people on the importance of them in our food production and for our general well bring. I now keep all of my 100% naturally. There are NO chemical inputs. I have noticed a huge increase in winter survival and health of the bees since going natural. Last year was a big exception.

I live in a semi-rural neighborhood that just experienced a major building boom.
The HOA is trying to make me get rid of my hives that I have had here for 14 years!
What a bunch of A-holes!
Did they not watch “A Bee Movie”

It’s a funny animation, buts it’s scary accurate

Without bees, we loose not just flower pollination

But LIFE for many plants and vegetation

Ignorance is scary and these fools have some fake HOA “power”

Man, I’m only gonna be 44 this April and I feel like I’m turning more and more into Clint Eastwood in Gran Turismo……

HOA’s just PISS ME OFF!!!!!!!

Bunch of “got nothing better to do” a$$wipes telling everyone else how to live

I don't know if that's worse or this:

There's an area farmer that tells me the same almost the same thing about my hives that border his fields. I don't like his spray, but he tells me that's not his problem, it's mine. He'll tell me I was the fool who put them close to the field and if I don't like it, I should move them. I've explained to him that I have nowhere else to go with them. The neighbor won't let me put more in his woods.
None of this is even taking into account that some the sprays he's using have property boundary, buffer distances listed on the bottle. It doesn't matter if there are pollinators on the property or not for some of them, there is supposed to be a buffer.
