Played fireman today . On my way home driving past a neighbors house i saw a small brush fire on the side of his garage . Stopped got to it started stomping it out and grabbed a shovel that was on the side of the garage and found the around the back of the garage the whole area was ablaze . Called the fire dept and got a bucket and scooped water out of the stream . The neighbor who is in his 80s and is partially paralyzed from a prior stroke and was trying to put it out with a little garden hose . Got it mostly pushed back from the garage but it was going into the woods . It jumped the stream and was burning pretty well by the time the fire dept arrived . Ever see a rhododendron bush start burning it’s like a Christmas tree and he has the perimeter of the woods lined with wild rhododendron bushes.
So it seems he was burning some brush and it got away from him . The fire ban went into effect here on March 8th . The police gave him a written warning .

I’ve known him 10 years and his cognitive abilities is really slipping he didn’t think he needed to fire dept to respond

Question for you fellas,

I would like to get a saw ported. What saw would you pick?

MS400
MS660
MS460
026

Thanks for your valuable opinions!
What saw would you primarily use the most, would go with that, 460 or 660 the 400 moves along pretty good, and would leave it stock but it’s ur choice, I’m spoiled with ported saws so don’t listen to me ,😆

Lee, MustangMike has a 261 that is an absolute light saber. I’m a Husky fan and he has to pry it out of my hands. But, if you are going to be doing hard wood and serious firewood duty…. The 460!!!

Depends on what you want to use it for. The MS-400 is probably "least in need", but they do respond well and make a fantastic power to weight saw. I would likely lean towards the MS-460 as a great all-around work saw, and they do wake up nicely (factory port timing and squish are all over the place). Doc Al does a great job on the 026s, but they are just great limbing saws. If you're looking for a beast for large bucking and milling, go with the MS-660. (I only have 6 of em running at the moment).

Matt will tell you, his BIL could not believe how my ported 660 went through a big, old dead (hard) Black Locust log. But, IMO, they are too heavy for an all-around saw.

Exactly why I said 460, I’m 28years younger than you and I DON’T want to swing a 660 all day…

A 460 ported would do all the firewood a man could ever dream of

But that little Might Mouse you got….. if all I was cutting was 12-16in logs all day. Give me that light weight sword, I could cut all day and never break a sweat

I vote the 460, and runner up 400. Not that I would say no to porting the 026 or 660, but I find 80% of the time I'm running the 400 and not much else.
