My neighbor despite all my kind advice went and purchased a sears 40 cc 139.99 chainsaw. Has turbo air cleaner ( electrolux ) an oregon bar and an oregon label low profile chain with anti-kickback links - and looks like skip chain - every other cutter is missing.

He fired it up tonight and caused me great suffering -

I asked to try it and this is the most vibrating I have done in weeks...

I will try to get a picture - any such thing as low kickback skip chain ?

Is it safe to replace it for him with semi-chisel ?

Thanks

PS tried to talk him into a 346 like mine :)

dfh,

Don`t feel bad for your neighbor, if he was able to be enticed by a Sears chainsaw, it`s unlikely that he would appreciate a 346.

Low kickback semi chisel is common on those low powered consumer saws. It`s also most likely, 3/8 Lo Pro so his choices of replacement chain are going to be limited to other Lo Pro arrangements. I suppose that he could probably cheat a little and put a regular 3/8 bar on the saw( as suggested by Crofter`s previous examination of 3/8 vs 3/8LP) and run a more aggressive chain, but where would that get him. He`s probably perfectly set up for his needs as it is.

Every person who buys a cheap saw just leaves another good saw for us. :D

tellem to read his manual real good ..mabe it will help him a little..

Not going to start bashing cheaper saws because, like Tony said, they do have their place.

But, some fellow was in my bud's shop talking up his Poulan Wild Thing. My bud said that his 2 little Homies, cheap though they were, quite paid for themselves and he liked them. Then, Wild Thing started comparing his saw to my bud's other saw, a J-red 670. Jonsered is no good. Got hmy friend good and fired up. So, he mentioned my 045. Again, the "logger" said it wasn't that great and his Wild Thing was better. Oh boy, I'm sorry I wasn't around for that. An 075 had no impact on our "logger", either. My bud finally shut him up by running down my list. The 066 had him tuck his tail, but the 090 sent him heading for the hills.

thanks

Tony , my focus was on the saw , my neighbor is in fact a close friend. I guess every chainsaw will find an appropriate owner and lead a productive life :) ( Philosophy )

I did not even mention synthetic oil
