Semi truck loads of seasoned firewood, delivered to NE Kansas?

okay thanks for the heads up, I have seen loads like that listed for $900-$1200, but the cordage amount depends. I understand now the max weight, etc. Sounds like they were trying to come off bigger than they are. Sounds like I would be better off continuing to cut and haul logs on my own to process in my saw buck i built. i have had some trees sit in the woods, and i came back this fall to cut and split, and they still had bark. Maybe im too much of a firewood noob, but they were dry and good to go to me. Moisture meter is something im picking up this week. I appreciate all the feedback everyone, really. This site has helped me learn and grow more than I can explain. Enough bein sappy, keep it safe!!

That works out to around $80 per cord. Though if split small enough, a man could eek an extra cord of firewood out of a load...

I can be at times, but i like cuttin wood, something peaceful about a saw running and trees falling. 80 a cord would work i think, priced some loads up in michigan, was coming out to 40-50 a cord, thats what got me thinking $$$ hahahahha Your 120+ miles from me, i will be down that way in a month or so cutting hedge. Supposed to be a gold mine of trees an old man said were big back when his grandfather owned the farm. Guess time will tell.

I don't think I have ever heard firewood and gold mine in the same sentence. What is your area paying a cord? I've always used the formula that 500 board feet of logs makes a cord of wood. Fully loaded log truck are around here hauls 5k ft. So 10 cords a load. That will cost you 900-1500 depending on size of lumber and the logger. Log price jumped 20-30 percent this past fall.

Those are what im coming down to cut, hard to find them that big up around here were someone will let you cut them, and yep, finally have a reason to throw a 35 inch bar on the saw,,,might need a 660 finally but i think my 360 will do it Slow for sure, but its $225-$300 a cord depending on the customer up here for hedge.

Oak is about $150-200 a cord up here, the margins wouldnt' work at that price point. Im not sure how but up in michigan some guys are getting 10 cords for 500, thats the number i saw that had me seeing dollar signs, and less fuel to get that much

Do you have big market for it in your region? I'm considering trying to do a little side business featuring ash, pecan, and a lot of hedge.

lol, I am way behind on my wood to bro. I swear I ain't bringin home no more red oak for my own use. hickory is where it's at here, dries much faster and heats the best. white oak and cherry next best. really I get very few clear cuts any more so I been getting the strait top pieces for myself.

I have orders coming out my ears i cant fill, thats why i was looking to price semi loads. Looks like I will be hunting more dead trees than i already have lined up. Next year will be good, i have a lot waiting to be filled.

only problem with dead trees in the timber is the times when they are rotted out and too far gone.

Treeslayer...I'm running up tons of unseasoned, downed red oak, is that stuff really such beast to season or what? Seems like everybody & their kid brother is trying to sell it!!

it is one of the wettest woods we have here. I have seen it rot in rounds before it dry. now there is different red oaks, rock oak is very good but we have very little. best split red oak and dry it at least a year ahead....longer be better.

I will be putting logs in the truck, and logs as long as the dual axle trailer, and load it until the leaf springs start looking bad, should make it back with 3-4 cords a trip if i stack the logs tall enough. After fuel and time should still come out way ahead.

Here in KS I haven't ran into dead standing red oak that wasn't dry yet, when the barks gone they are ready to go. Must be i hit a good patch of them.

That's a lot more then some sellers in my area and cheaper then several. Restruants are 450 a cord but that is a different ball game. They are more work. But they buy all year. $225 a cord it is. Tons of craigslist winter warriors are at $150 a cord for seasoned oak, I sell loads of elm and hedge any chance i get. Hedge is $250 all day. Even if i pay one of my guys to cut @ $10/hr, a stacked truckload only costs me $30-$50, so $100 worst case to deliver and stack it isn't too bad, but i see your point. $170 or more to deliver and stack worst case is nice. Lots of farmers around here let people cut their own firewood to clear out dead trees. I have some really good spots since im insured, they dont have to worry about someone getting hurt. It helps me alot. I will raise prices and see how it goes. Thanks for the tip!
