Somehow, through the mistery of cyber space, this was sent to me. I remember talk of shill bidding on some chainsaws a while back. Could this be one of the involved parties? I have copied the Email below. Does anyone know about this? Mike

I am VERY SORRY for my mistake - if you check my feedback, I have been a
very good customer. I will make sure no one in my FAMILY or friends EVER
bid on a related item. Again, very sorry - please let me know what I need
to do to get re-instated.

Sincerely, Lee

Subject: POI SB NOTICE: eBay Registration Suspension - Shill Bidding-
[email protected]

The sellers most involved in shill bidding seem to always get away with it too. The trick is to look in the bid history for an item and look for bidders that have no feedback but also have no "sunglasses" ( indicating that the ID is not new ). I won't mention any specific names but if you look at the bid history for "william_champ" you'll see what I mean.

If you are smart (if you care about shill bidders you are not), what you should do to get the price on an auction is use a automatic bidding program, like esnipe.
Decide what the most you want to pay is, enter that amount and let the program bid it for you at the last second.
Bidding early is stupid. It gives others a chance to up your bid and you will almost always pay more. It also draws attention to the auction and gives it credibility. There is no point to bidding sooner than about 5 seconds before close.
Using this method you will never pay too much, get shilled, or push up the price with early bidding.

you will never pay too much

Yeah, right...on Ebay? I quit even looking at the chain saws there. Even worthless junk gets top dollar.

We cleaned out a store-room at work recently, auctioned all the garbage off amongst employees. What nobody wanted went in the dumpster. IT guy rescued some old computer parts, a couple of old dot matrix printers, some monitors, etc...sold the stuff on ebay for over $200...advertized with no guarantee that any of it was any good! Nobody has asked to return any of it yet.

That's what Ebay is for, I guess.

Ebay is the worlds largest garage sale. You just gotta have stuff listed at the right time, I just sold a Husky 55 that went for more than the walkerized 394xp that I sold a couple months ago. Hurricanes sure help out chainsaw prices.

Expansion chamber

Steve here...
I have gotten smoked pletty too, but I also just picked up a pipe from an old West Bend Kart motor for $5.00!!
Not a bad deal for pipe
Steve

Ebay is fun (for me anyway) you just have to be careful. There are some good deals-they are just surrounded by stuff that sold at a ridiculous price to peaople who did'nt know better. I think that chainsaws are one area where most stuff sells relatively high.

If they are as described in the auction and you are happy with your purchases you did not pay too much. Has the Mac been refinished or was it really that clean!:)

the sp125 was running when i got it, but i like it so much i did a complete teardown and rebuild and repainted it. it is a bear of a saw. almost unstoppable.

maybe I have an attitude/perception problem...I bid on and won a Homie EZ-250 (Super-EZ with an extended bar mount to accomodate an automatic chain tension setup) for about $50. Runs good, but I got a late S-EZ (later ones didn't have the neat perforated metal guard around the rewind fins) at a garage sale the next week for $5. Original everything, including case. Also agreed to take the old McC 610 (not 6-10)with it at $5.

Since the McC actually has a value of about negative $10, and I agreed to pay $5 each for the saws, wouldn't that make the Super-EZ worth about $20:p

When I was a kid my dad ran Homelites (mostly) He decided on a new felling and bucking saw The McCulloch 125 . He picked it up at the shop, went to a job and somehow felled a tree on it the first morning.-Your's looks a LOT better.:p

Shopping ebay

A good thing to do when buying expensive stuff on ebay, is to email the seller and ask for his phone number before buying.
If you can call him and see what kind of guy he is and talk about the purchase, you will be less likely to get junk. And if it is junk, you'll have a number to call to talk about getting your money back.
If the guy won't give you his number, run, don't walk, away.
