Is there something in between skidding tongs and things like the LogRite skidding arches for pulling logs out of the woods. I had in mind something like a small truck you could put under the front end of a log before pulling it out. I'm thinking of mainly downed logs for firewood. It seems the tongs would make for a tough pull & a messy log. The arches seem nice but the $1200-1400 for the size I'd need is more $$$ than I can spend.

Thanks for any info/advice anyone might have.

Build your own arch

They are pretty simple devices....

Go to the scrap yard and get 2 hub and spindles with tires (target front wheel drive vehicles).

Buy a boat winch with 3/8" or 1/4" cable,

Buy a pulley,

Buy a trailer hitch.

Buy a case of beer for the nearest welder.

Some 2" HD square steel tube.

3' - 4' chain with grab hooks.

Should be able to build one for $200-250. I can send you some rough measurements if you would like. I think i posted a crude schematic last year. I'll see if I can find you a link.
