Hello,

I want to hook a double locking snap hook with thimble to my climbing line. Climbing line is Samson Blue Streak which is turning out to be a pain to splice.
Would it be safe to connect it with a knot instead of splicing?
What knot would you guys suggest?

Thank you for your time

The difficulty with attaching a snap hook to your climbing line is pulling it out of the tree. The risk of getting the snap hook hung up is very high. I have tied a snap hook to a short length of climbing line to use as lanyard. Used a triple fisherman's.

You may want to rethink this plan unless you have other ideas we don't know about.

When i learned to climb the guys who taught me used snap hooks on their climbing rope with blake hitch. Just kinda what i know. Does some unefficent now you mention it as pulling rope down from none snap hook end can take longer.

I will get to researching other repelling alternatives. Thank you guys for your comments and advice (ordered the tree climbers companion)

Any knot that's good to attach a clip with would be a pain to untie. I use a double fishmen knot on a carabiner. I can slip the biner out of the self tensioning knot pretty easily . Be almost impossible on a clip to untie.
I like using a steel carabiner sometimes for the weight. Can toss that sucker far, but don't let it hit you.

For what you have:
For using the tail of the knot to snap for a friction hitch;
i prefer a DBY, it is a fair knot and feeds out the top nicely w/o further deformity to the Bowline.
.
Double noose to krab much better as advised; using separate cord BOTH ENDS (so can be smaller diameter) for friction hitch.
i always would keep steel krab with me for utility krab and throwing weight for lifeline and rigging lines as advised.
.
All in one snap/friction hitch can't be moved around tree as easily w/o retying,
'split tail' allows you to move around obstacles, relocate line etc.
