I am kinda tracking with Sperho in that if I opt for a piece of used OPE, it's kept in mind that it will likely be a 'project.' I've only bought used twice (once at Amick's on a good 371XP, and once on Fleabay for a clearing saw) The saw was a fair deal, and the brush saw was a (gamble on but) screaming red-hot deal. Both needed a little elbow grease and a few parts, but that was expected.

Also tracking with Computeruser in the time vs money equation. If I need something ASAP, I'll usually buy new and source it locally. If it's something that I can wait on & don't need right away, (want vs need) I'll hunt around.

I'm just a country homeowner whose developing an odd but useful OPE hobby to supplement another odd & semi-expensive hobby (off-roading.) If I were a pro, it'd be no question about new vs used. In that regard, time (& down time) IS money, made or lost.

McCulloch SP 125

Looking for the Lower Crankshaft (Needle Bearing) Tool to remove the '2" McCulloch Crank bearing screws...It's shaped like an allen wrench but is indented to accept the 6 point screw head....Thanks for looking if you might have one.

There is usually a splined wrench on e-bay.Search using"McCulloch".

Now,used stuff.Always figure the worst case scenario and buy accordingly. If I have to wrench it,my labor is worth 55 bucks an hour,to somebody else or myself. If I inherit somebody elses problems there is going to be a monitary compensation involved. The words"worth blah, blah, blah" mean nothing to me.
My old dozers for example were all purchased at scrap iron prices, much of my machine tools as well.

Too much moola, walk on,there's always another deal right down the road.

I have one rule when it comes to buying used try it first! I don't buy off ebay I like to go see it in person and try it.If the seller wont let you run or try it I walk away. This also applies to taking it apart for a look. Would you buy a used car if you cant take it for a ride? Also if you look at what else he or she owns and the condition of it it gives you an idea on how cared for the item you are buying is.
