I have been accused of this and wonder what it means to spoil a a guy.(Climbers, ground, etc...) BTW, I need to justifiy all my spoiling to corporate.
Don't you think if you can get a really good guy and keep him with perks and get him a new pair of Geckos, (althogh, he wants Bashlin), ? (?)
Jeff

Spoiled employee: someone who has unrealistic expectations of fair treatment, reasonable wages, and favorable working conditions; typically based on previous employment experiences.

This type of individual is prone to complaining when certain on-the-job (OTJ) luxuries like work breaks, better equipment, harder working or more skilled co-workers are not present. Generally found to be a malefactor among the less demanding employees.

Usually it is said a good climber is spoiled by too much time in a bucket. I think a good groundy may get spoiled by a mini skid. Either one may loose fitness or mental edge by using these 2 machines and want to use them even if property damage may occur or they are not appropriate.

:agree2: I was spoiled with a bucket and now weigh nearly 300# and didn't weigh but 235# when I starting using a bucket a majority of the time, only had to climb when the bucket wouldn't reach over hang and now due to the weight and other things I don't climb at all.

It means that corporate thinks that you are treating him well. Did they do the work when younger?

Crunch the numbers on his productivity to show that he is worth keeping comfortable when in a tree.

I know of one company that has bonus compensation in the way of a gear fund. workers get it based on productivity and leep the gear they buy out of it.

Man that sounds like encouraging side work or even breaking away on their own. I have, way back worked for companies that would pay half for a climbing saw (ms200, etc.), you pay the other half, and you could take it home and after a specified time it was entirely yours but you were encouraged to keep using it on the job.

That started a lot of side work as the employee likely wouldn't buy it on their own.

I agree. That policy of buying a employee who is good more gear is complete BS. Give the guy the stuff he needs right off and if you can't you suck big peepee. What BS John, I'm sorry. I am very respectable to you but this just sucks.
I think the employer who thinks this is a good idea is a shyster.

First of all as an employee you have the right to have the proper stuff to do your job, second if you are an employer its your duty to give your employeees what they need to do the job.
Any kind of incentive plan made by an employer should be in monetary form, anything but is hogwash.

It like if a guy takes a job as a computer programer and his boss say" If you do good I will get you a computer"

Not only does this sound illegal but unethical.

I used to work for a guy who would be me just about any gear I wanted. Only catch is it was his gear, I was just using it. LOL, he bought me a new saddle with leg straps and a floating D and after a week I gave it back to him. I preferred my old broke in saddle. I don't really spoil my guys. They work with what I have. My gear is not new but is in good shape. I do pay them well and loan them money when times are slow. Christmas before last I gave 2 guys a $500 bonus a piece. Wish I could have done the same this Christmas but it was too slow.

So if you don't do a good job, you buy your own pens, but if you do a good job, I will buy more pens for you to continue to do a good job and like it.
Jeff

when was the last time an office worker was supposed to show up with his own pens?
you got good guys? You are the luckiest man alive. Spoiled is when they start to take advantage of you.

I'm with treemandan: Give me more money and I'll take care of my gear.

But I understand what Jeff is saying. Sometimes you'v got to do what you got to do to keep a good climber around. They're getting fewer and farther between.

And, although they have their time and place, buckets suck. They'll turn an ace climber into mediocre one quicker than anything except drugs and alcohol.

Not me, I sucked at Pac-Man. They get annoying and are often in the way.

Actually they pay over industry standard, the idea is that the better your production is the more you have to buy your own gear. It is especially good with the way these younger guys like the saddle bling.

I'm pretty sure it is not the only way they incentivise their employees.

its part of the biz i think climber should have his own rope and saddle with a safety lanyard(flipline) The chain saw is a different story sry guys im not paying almost 600 for my saw to use it for your company send your saw up. now if you pay for my saw to be there then its worth it.

Kinda like a auto tech he needs his own box and hand tools but you ever see a tech show up for work with a lift or tire machine in his truck?

ha saddle bling
im 23 with no bling my mentor climbs on a tradition style blakes/tauntline, no split tail no pulleys, asenders, nothing else..thats how i learned

Im recently switched over the the split tail, but i dont have no 'bling' on my saddle i seen guys with all kinds of crap hanging off them in the tree jinglin the whole way around getting stuck on limbs, i try to keep minimal if i really need something else ill call for it.

:givebeer:

At any rate, Jeff, it sounds like you are keeping a step ahead and looking at the future. If you want a bunch of miserable sob's then treat them like crap but if you want shinning stars let them know how much you love them but watch out for those who take advantage.
