I used a 2 over 2 prussic for years then went to 3 over two when I got bigger and heavier and have been using it for prolly 12 years. I tie it where the end and the bridge come out in the same direction and use a stopper knot. I have used taut line and blakes but have always gone back to the prussic as it seems to run a little better for me. I climbed traditional for years then went to an open system with a split tail and still used my prussic knot. I am now using an eye to eye prussic cord split tail system and using a VT hitch. It's not that big of a deal to untie a traditional system and recrotch if you need to, especially if you have been doing it forever and can tie the knot lickety split but an open system is so much more efficient. If you do nothing else I would suggest going to a split tail over traditional. You can do so much more and it is so much faster. Not too big of a learning curve either. And this is coming from someone who climbed traditional for years.

Probably the most sickening feeling you can have is doing an overhead lay back cut, fully extended with all your weight on the knot, then with then piece cut half way through the knot starts creeping. That's when I start thinking about the Blake's.

.

just do it my mentor is the same way he uses a blakes now but no split tail. the guy i work for now ties a tautline but it doesnt matter hes a hack

hes right about the split tail though it is a lot nice and u can even still tie the tautline if u want
