Hey Yall,

I have a great stihl 036 saw. In the past year some problems have developed.
I crank it up and it runs great, I cut a few trees etc and everything is fine.
If I shut the saw off, It wont crank back up. I borrowed a friends dolmar sachs saw that did the exact same thing. Is this a carb problem or and ignition problem? How do I solve this problem? It stinks being in the middle of a job and not able to finish if I take a break!

Thanks in advance,
Warhorse

My 036 does it now and again, hard to re-start when still hot, vapor locks or whatever, anyway crank it over with the trigger full on till she kicks in again.

An easy tune up is - new fuel-filter, new sparkplug, check out the tank-breather, strip&clean carb.

Mabe your vent on your gas tank isn't working well. If it has a hose with grubscrews coming out of your tank, inside the air box replace it ,make sure you put the 2 grub crews in the new hose. (The hose will shrink with age and restrict venting).Mabe that willsolve your problem. Mabe not.

if it were a vapor lock problem, would that also stop a shot of ether from cranking er up?

thanks yall

Unless it is flooding really bad, the ether should make it start. Is the plug wet when you try to restart it? How does piston and cylinder look? Compression reading?

Anyway it would not hurt to(as stated earlier) replace the fuel lines, fuel filter, air filter, tank vent, and reset the carb. You may want to get a tach or have the dealer set the carb after reset.

Odd you have two different makes of saws having the exact problem at the sametime. Seems the saw must have cranked back up if you have been using it for over a year. Since you had the same problem with the Sachs at the sametime I'd have to ask one question, we're both saws using the same fuel out of the same can, if so there's your sign...
