SEARCH is not working...Ok guys, I have a guy across the state selling what he claims is a Stihl 045 AV Super w/ 20" bar/chain for $300...he's not positive its a super and I dont know how to physically tell the difference ..if there is one? he mentioned somethin about magnum....I am gonna try to upload pics...also wants to sell his 041 for $200 w/ 20" bar/chain...I dont know anything about Stihls as I have only owned a mid 90's Husky 55..ANY input on specs, ways to tell or what to look for would be helpful!!

That is an early 045, not a Super. The very first 045s had a 50mm piston, 75cc disp. At some point you got the 52mm, 81cc 045. Along comes the Super with a 54mm, 87cc piston. The 056s followed suit with a 52mm, 54mm, and 56mm piston (94cc, Magnum).

So, unless that saw has been rebuilt or repaired, it will definitely not be the Super. Can't comment on the likelihood of it being 50mm or 52mm as I've never actually run across an example of the former.

FYI, what pegs that as an early 045 is the cast model number on the shroud, the fixed, white plastic upper hand guard, the 'electronic' decal on the shroud, the white plastic trigger and interlock, and the narrow lower hand guard. I also see what looks like a plain, one-piece muffler instead of the 3-piece of later models.

I wouldn't say this saw is worth $300, especially with that early Bosch electronic ignition (which possibly could have been swapped out). It is clean, though.
