Hello wondering why my 056 is not firing consistently. If I am getting spark at all .could my ignition still be bad. Get more consistent spark holding plug to top of on off switch. Spark is blue .thanks for any help

I have experianced the switches going bad on 056 saws often. That is what I would suggest checking first. Disconnect the switch and make sure your wire coming to the switch can't ground out. I've seen 056 saws where they use the choke to shut them off cause they are fed up with replacing the switch. I like and recomend a switch myself. I think some times the wire going to the switch gets stretched also, when the AV dampners are over stressed pulling on the handle in a cut takes the slack out of the wire stretching it to the point where it pulls the wire apart little by little. The insulation may not be pulled apart but the copper part of the wire could still be damaged. If your AV dampners are getting weak or you pull on the saw hard when pinched that is likely.
I saw a used muffler go over $100 on ebay about a week ago.
My former employer purchased a Stihl electronic ignition for the 056 about 2 years ago for around $130. If that is your problem an after market module could be an option if you have a good coil. I think they used differant ignition systems in the 056 so i am not sure if the after market works with any or all of them. Hope its a simple fix.

Do an AS search on the 056 ignition... it's been covered... If you're electronic, thre are two ignitions - the Bosch and the SEM. When the Bosch goes, it's a problem as you also need a new flywheel to update it to the SEM version... With the SEM failure in unusual, but if you need one there are many used available from the concrete cut-off saws..

if you have a points based model, a failing condensor is a common cause.
