For the coil experts out there.

I have a stihl 064 project saw I picked up a while ago that I am just now getting to.

The saw was purchased mid 1994. The serial number is 128646735. Which coil do I need?

Can I use one of these ducati ones on ebay?

The coil on the saw is not the original coil and doesn't work and so I don't think it's really the right coil nor do I want to buy based on the part numbers that are on it.

Thanks (as always)

Mike

What flywheel do you have?
Assuming it is original it will be the Prufrex CDIC one, 1122 400 1204. Which would mean it shouldn't be compatible with the Ducatti one you showed.
What are the numbers that are on the supposed dud coil?

The coil I have is not the original dud coil, it's some crap other dud coil the kid was screwing around with. The flywheel is the original

I got this from some 17 year old kid with a small engine repair operation of some sort...he had kinda taken the coil out and tried to replace it with another. All the plastics and metals are there and the whole thing was $90. Compression is there and both tthe top and bottom ends appear to be in good working condition.

You'll need to remove the flywheel and find the part number on the back before we can tell you which coil you need. There are 11 different flywheel and ignition combinations available for the 064.

Anyone have any info on variations of flywheel keyway location/ignition coil location relative to crank keyway location or TDC? Can combining alternate flywheel/coil combinations alter timing in a usable range? I have an 064 Bosch (single keyway) flywheel Part No. 1122 400 1201a which works with a Japanese coil IIDA 1. I also have a Japanese coil IIDA 2 which will mount using the other mounting boss available on my 064 case. My 064 Bosch (double keyway) flywheel Part No. 1122 400 1203 is unusable (damaged), but I have it around for comparison purposes. Any recommendations for measuring the keyways/coil locations in a meaningful fashion?!? Thanks

My 064 has the 1201 FW, and its currently running a 3 legged 046 coil, I think a 1309?? It is an early saw, with the three bolt holes for the coil mount, but a regular 1300 coil doesnt line up. The rear bolt hole behind the 1309 coil doesnt line up, but the upper and lower does. Ive only ran a tank thru it since swapping, but seems to work just fine.

If you have the later 064 case with all the mounting holes, you can use either the "dog leg" coil that was common on the early 064's #1122 400 1300 or the common 0000 400 1300 coil that is used on numerous other Stihl saws....Both are compatible with the 1201 flywheel. :msp_thumbup:

I'm kinda confused?

Mine has three mounting post, but the 1300 won't fit?

The coil that was on it, had a separate trigger mounted to it, but no part number. It did have a wire nut on the kill switch wire, so obviously someone has been in there before, so I can't swear it was the original coil on it....

That would have been the early dog leg coil with the trigger that was originally in your 064.....Your case only has the holes for it an d the CDIC coil. That's why you couldn't mount the 1300 coil

064AV has the luxury of having the cases with the extra top mounting hole to accept the 0000 400 1300 coil...(Unless I misunderstood what he has....Pics help) :)

That "dogleg" coil still worked BTW. Is it a limited coil? I only swapped em, to see if it would work, I'm curious as to if I should swap her back?

Curious as to the "dog-legged" vs. "3 post" coil. My 064 coil has the armature above and below the coil. The 066 coil I have only has the armature above the coil. My Arctic 046 has it above and below, and my MS460 only has it above. My 064 does have dual mounting bosses. I am curious as to altering my timing through coil/flywheel interchange.

I know pic's are worth a thousand words, but I am having one hell of a time with this technology!!! Neither my 064 or 066 coils have Stihl part numbers...My 046 Arctic (3 post?) shows 1122 1312. My MS460 Magnum (2 post?) shows 1128 1312. Any ideas?

I'll try to make it to the shop this morning and have a look at the coils I have. The 046 should be a 1314 coil, at least most are.

Did I really attach an image of the gif representing the attached image I was trying to imbed? Yes, yes I did. Then I somehow imbedded a uselessly small version of a 197.5 KB image...

Finally!!! What a confusing process for being so simple

The 064 coil was being used with the Bosch single keyway flywheel 1122 400 1201 a. The 066 coil goes with a double keyway, tall flywheel 1122 400 1209 (made in Japan).

Mid 1994? My 064 serial number is 134******

EDIT: My 064 also has 4 bolt mounts for the ignition module
