My 066 has been a labor of love. I posted quite some time ago about the fried piston. I have rebuilt it and have been making chips with it, but the carb seems to keep getting out of adjustment. One of my local Stihl service persons states that some of the 066s had a recall on the carb due to it causing it to run lean. Mine seems to want to lean out and lose adjustment ever so often. Can anyone confirm the service mans comments? :help:

Never heard of any recall or issues like that on the 066 carb, but specifically which carb version are you talking about?

Have you done a pressure/vac test on your saw?

Check to see which version carburetor you have, either with the black fully adjustable metering screws or the red plastic limited adjustment screws. Then we can offer suggestions.

Alright, I popped the cover off the carb and it looks like the screws are the black ones. What do you guys think? Thanks!

If someone has removed caps............screws are black also under the caps

Older carb, screws stick out of carb 1/2 inch or so. and you can see a spring
on the H and L screws

New carb, screws are back in carb body, with red caps....unless they
have been removed (caps)

It would be the older carb. The H and L screws both have springs and there is no red anywhere on the carb or the springs that I could see.
