Ok, finally had a little time to clean the saw up and take a few pics.

Here are a few of the saw with a 26ish" bar:

...and a couple of comparison pics with the 026 I just bought, and my 373XP with a 24" bar

I was able to run the saw today, and it definitely needs a little tweaking. Cranks without trouble, but initially would not idle. I finally got the idle set, and the saw pulls strong into the upper limits of the RPMs, but it is a little sluggish off the start....basically a little hesitation/"dead spot" when the throttle is initially depressed. I've also noticed an erratic increase in RPM's while idling, saw will jump up a couple thousand RPMs sometimes while at idle, and eventually settle back down to the set speed. I've also noticed that sometimes when you release the throttle, it will not drop immediately back to its set idle, and again will hum along at a couple thousand RPMs above idle for a short time until it finally drops back to the set idle speed. I'm probably not describing this correctly, but I'm sure the "L" & "H" jest need proper adjustment.

Any suggestions? How should I proceed with setting the idle and max RPM's per the three adjustment screws? I have a handheld Tiny Tach, so I should be able to get pretty close to factory specs. Right now, I have the "L" out 1/4 turn, and the "H" out 3/4" (but I haven't actually measured the RPMs). I'd like to get rid of the fluctuating idle first before I hook up the tach. Thanks!

I don't have an 066, but, was not aware that only 3/4 out on H was enough. A stihl head should chime in here before you run it again.

The side plate has the adjustments marked "3/4" and "1/4", that's why I started there.

I'm kind of curious if the low isn't supposed to be marked "1 1/4", maybe the "1" portion was been worn off. Most of the data I've found online shows that both should be out 1 full turn, so I may give that a try.

It's one full turn with no limit caps. The 1/4 turn is the starting point when you have the limit caps on the carb.

Geez, now I got to unpack mine and look! Great info...(!!! ) mine came pre-tuned after a full rebuild, ported, mod'd & carb chamber expansion. Thanks for the enlightenment guys.

What air filter are you running? The HD 2 runs very well on them And dose a better job keeping dirt out than HD 1

Just says HD so I will presume the "1"... I've been tapping it out at every fill. Guess I need to upgrade eh? :) kicks @ss on big wood as-is tho and I ALWAYS close the choke before I take it off. THANKS for the tip!

Checked the saw again, and it is marked "3/4" and "1/4". But, as mentioned above, the limit caps are still in place. How do you remove the limit caps, and does it require pulling the carb? As far as the air filter is concerned, I am not sure which style I am currently running on the saw.

Also, I am not sure what length bar I currently have on the saw. I measured it from the side plate, and get roughly 27" to the end of the bar. I'm guessing it might actually be a 28" bar, and if that is the case, I definitely want to run a 32...

I don't know what the caps look like on your saw. If it is just cheap plastic over the real screws, some guys just use a wood screw, screw it in a little for a bite, and pull them off, BUT, someone with a stihl saw like that should comment on that.

As for the bar length, just check all the numbers on the bar tail end, it will tell you length, drivelink count, pitch and gauge of chain.

It's probably a 28" by the pictures next to the husky with a 24". Small screw into it and then turn CCW until it pulls out.
