smaller version of the 090 and 076, should be around 100cc. Very heavy, very slow, high vibration, indestructable.

You could probably run a 42" bar on it without even slowing it down.

It's about the same weight also as the 090 but with much less power. A good jungle saw for the natives logging in the rain forest. They're actually still in production at Stihl's Brazil facility and you can order them through some shops in Canada if you really need one. They use the same piston and cylinder as the gear-drive 090.

Jacob, Not sure I "NEED" one...I just think they are about the best looking saw I've ever seen. I have a 088, 066, 039 (how did that get in there?) and an 026. Need is a word my wife doesn't think much of! I saw a new 090 on ebay before and some pic's from AS members...they just look good. I'm suprised to here that they are stihl in production. So whats it worth??? Anybody?

107cc, I think. No idea what an NOS one is worth, but I think used ones hit around $250-350.

There's no reason in the world to buy one, especially for that much money, unless you need ease of servicing before any other factor. It's only claim to fame is being the 090's little brother and that's driven prices up for 070s. Saws like my 111S are more comfortable and larger, but don't have the 090 cachet.

If you have $500 to spend on an older chainsaw get a used 090. Then you can say you have the world's biggest saw.

I bet that 070 closes at 1050 U.S. The jug, piston and clutch are the only difference on the 090. A good find for a collector. Same jug and piston on the 090G.

070

John,
Steve here...The starter cover assy. is smaller on the 070, and your right about going for big money, to a collector you can't replace it.
Steve

Would anyone really pay over a grand for a new 070? Used 090s have been in the $400-600 range recently, and I remember a used 070 that didn't get any bids at $200 last year.

OK wait a minute. How can they be valuable to a collector if they still make them in Brazil? Do they still make the 090 also? John, can you still get them in Canada?

090av

Steve here...
I......have the last 090av to come into the USA. They stopped importing them into Canada early last year. 070's haven't been made for years, to the best of my knowledge. I could be wrong. Brazillian made saw?....never heard of that My 090's where made in Germany
Steve

Z, I've seen pictures of your 090's on AS. They are a thing of beauty.....just curious, how you know you got the last one? There was a very nice one on ebay a couple weeks ago but it had an alaskan mill setup with it and they wanted $1500us. Don't think it sold.

090

Sap,
I saw that one too...If you look close at the pics you could tell it was an early non AV saw and was repainted too. The last NEW 090AV I remember seeing on ebay, was one 'ol Lambert had. That was early last springish if my memory serves me.

Sap, notice in the pic the rear handle configuration, and how the top handle goes past the side of the saw, and also the fake chain brake, all it is is a guard

Early AV

Here's a pic of an early 090AV, don't have any idea if they made them in 070's too, in this config.

That new 070 on ebay is not an av, and I would guess it could be 20 plus years old.. John help me out here!! You were in the woods back then

Steve

Z, thats a great looking saw...you had (have) two of them if I remember correctly. He11, twentyfive years ago I rode around on a motorcycle that had less displacement than those bad boys.
I see your 660 arctic has been on ebay several times over the past few months....whats up, Gypo's check bounce.

Sap

A check??? He11 yes I can write you a check..... I thought you needed money!!!:p

Howdy

They were still manufacturing the 070 in Brazil as of January of this year. The brazilian made saws aren't as high quality as German made saws though. The Brazil plant manufactures saws for sale only in third world markets. I think they still make the 056 Magnum 2 also, I still see it listed on some of the websites.

The 041 and 08S were listed on various Stihl sites, last time I checked.

Why'd they stop using that over-the-top tube on the 090AV? I always thought that was especially neat looking.
