Curios about the history of the 090. I contacted Stihl USA about the production run of the 090. I was told the run was from 1968 to 1985 and that they are no longer made or sold by stihl anywhere in the world.
I have read from some posts that they were imported in Canada for later years but stihl does not support that. Just wandering if the saws that were purchased could have been from the production run that stihl stands by. I sent an e-mail to stihl ca. today in hopes of clarification. Does anyone know the facts on this subject?
Thanks

I don't know, but I could have had one that wasn't that used for $500 bucks a while back, and I passed on it...I wished I would have bought it after seeing what one sold for a while back.

Yeah, some guy spent $3500 on a NOS 090 on eBay a week or two ago. There is a thread about it on here. They are still readily available used if you want one...most have been run hard though, like any big logger saw. Why are you so curious about the history?

I bought an 090 several years ago. I was told it was made in1975. I had to do some work to it but for the money it has been great. I sometimes have to buck really big oaks. Unfortuanatly these hurricaines seem to lay them down pretty easy. My 090 has the handle bar down the middle. I dont see them much anymore. Do you think the saw is really that old?

Post the serial number...lots of fellas on here can decode it and tell you when it was made, etc.

Thanks, I will post a picture also. It is missing a fin from the recoil housing, other than that it looks fairly new. I like the saw but if it was really old and would sell for several thousand, I would get by without it. Who knows why people pay what they pay.

If it has the handle over the middle it is a older AV model. Although it is desirable it will not fetch near teh money that the newer AV models will. You need to remember that one at $3000 was new.

Can the 090s be retrofitted with a chain brake? They are really cool, and I may want one someday, but i think I wouldn't want to use a saw that big with no chainbrake, except maybe for milling. Seems like its way to easy for it to rip your face off. At this point its all academic. I don't have teh money or teh justification for one at this point in my life.
