I tell you something, sappo. Before I started visiting web forums related to arboriculture and chainsaws, I had 25 years in the industry, so had scads of knowledge and experience. Now, 8 years laterI have learned a hell of lot about both fields, and become a better arborist, And, many have benefited and learned from me relating my experiences both with words and photography.
And, I'm still learning..

Moral of the story, when you are a relative neophyte, and with little real experience, you will learn more if you shut your mouth and read...and read ...and read.

Reminds me of a young fella who I've trained, and now owns his own company. He has an ego problem, and perhaps even a chip on his shoulder, and I've heard that he has proclaimed to others that he is the best climber in Seattle......which is preposterous. (The ISA World Champion resides here.)

Well dude, to be quite honest...after reading your 'professional opinion' of the tree in that other thread that most obviously collapsed and fell 90 degrees to the face cut, I wasn't impressed with either your knowledge or experience. Sorry.

To put it in perspective, I don't have to be a car mechanic to know when a mechanic working on my vehicle isn't worth a damn....I just have to know what I'm supposed to be looking for.

I know,,,,,most of us are not fit to tension your chains,,,,,,,, but a quick poll of experiences, I for one had been running saws, starting with the stinger end of an old Mac 2 cylinder back in 1965

How many years do others here have?

Sorry, an 8 year old green plastic thing that you can still read the bar lettering dose not count,,,,,, my advice to you ,,,,wear a few bars out, the old-honest way, make a few blades out of the old bars and try to listen a little more then talk for a time!

That sounds like your dad started you off with a bang, shoerfast,if you were born in 61!!

I don't recall having any saw experience till I started landscaping in 1972. I also had a brief stint that year with a gypo logger out of Ketchikan, but only as a choker setter. Been doing full time tree work since late '75.....
But I've still put the chain on bassackwards a few times.....

Dude, I don't know whay I'm responding to such a fool who has never once admitted that he was wrong. And that instance is the most glaring. EVERYONE else who viewed those pics was able to read the situation and see what happened but you. Judging by your history here, I don't give a flying fark what you think about me. My reputation on these boards (and in real life work) is impossible to be tarnished by a cull like you.

FWIW I've had better and cooler performance/luck/whatever with sprocket tip bars on my two 361's. The 361's do not shoot out lots of oil, but enough. And I've found that a chain that is adjusted too tight, does not dig into the wood as well as one that is properly adjusted.

It brings back good memory's huh?

My first job was lifting the stinger and walk it to the next block,,,, blocking firewood, but hired on with my Grandpa at the time,,,,, my Dad hated that old Mac, and I was way too little to run the engine end.

Still remember pumping the oil (there was an extra thumb-plunger on the stinger with an aux oil tank) You could see the oil run off from the engine side, and needed a "bill-of-grandpa's hat" nod as to more or less oil,,,,, everyone ran drain oil on there bars back then. ,,,,,, it was maybe till about 72 that we got a couple newer saw that I could run myself, plenty supervised ,, you can sure get a kid to stack slash if he might get a chance to run a saw! (dose that trick still work?),,,,, but love-it, ever sense.

Maybe it's memories like that that makes me think that slaps comments smell so bad?

And still to this day I also will put a chain on bass-ackwards,,,, but tend to chuckle more then the first time, I hope to again, maybe in my 80's, I will put a chain on backwards and blame the Stihl Dealer,,,, beat the hell out of Bingo, no?

Sap's doesn't sag much as yours NWCS, but that's cause you prolly keep it wrapped around your waist, as does ShoerFast, but then, we're not girlymen....

COVEREDINSAP.......may i ask what your experience/background is?
.....just asking so i know who to listen to

For a differant feel, try tucking it into your sox!

Have you ever wondered if slaps Govener was looking at him when he said "don't be a girlyman"?

Vman, I sure hope that was a rhetorical question, meant to prove a point. You've been around here enough to know who's who, and though I've not seen you around for a while, I'd hope that you know who Sap is and what his experience /background is. He's a troll, bro. If you've missed the last week worth of his posts, I'd recommend browsing through a couple of the more Sap-laden threads. :dizzy:

Welcome back Vman.

Based on previous posts, Id say you would probably tell an ASE ceritifed mechanic with 40 years under his belt hes putting your pistons in up-side-down, and then proceed to argue with him.

Then with his upside down pistons, tell the mechainic how terrable he is and how your not going to pay for such worthless job,,,, and zoom on out of there, upside-down pistons and all.

And then swear his "up-side-down" piston engine is the best ever, and all others are junk and out-dated!!

Works for all different size bars/chain types as a "rule of thumb" starting place for chain adjustment. You can easily dial the chain adjustment in from there as necessary.
.

You're full of it... Now you try to wiggle out of your previous BS by saying it's a "starting position"?

You're a flake and a fake and a sap with sag in drag. hmmm...

Well it looks to me like Sap has taken Simon's place. He's getting far too many responses that contribute nothing to the community's knowledge of saws. IMHO the way to hurt him is to filter him out; instead of ranting ad nauseum.
