Does anyone know if it's possible to mod a 441 and gain about 1 hp? I like mine but wish I would have bought the 460. Salesman convinced me 441 was a better saw than the 460. (Air injection less filter maint.) Want more power but not any more weight than I have now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, port the thing. They've been proven to run right with a muffler modded 7900 when ported. Mine pulls full comp on a 28" bar with authority in hardwood.

your salesman was just like mine... later on i felt like a *&^%head
for buying the 441 since it's the same weight but less power
than the 460... and i too wish i had bought the 460

but i sold it and got all my money back plus a few jacksons

You could get it ported, or you could sell it on E-bay and get the 460. The 460 will have more power stock or ported and weigh the same.

Air filtration I found is a non-issue since I have been buying Stihl. The filter is so quick to get at that I actually like cleaning it. I like the filter style too, just my preference.

You got sold on the deal though. Should have asked the salesman how he knew the 441 is better, its just came out and the reviews are not that steller.

The 460 on the other hand has payed it's dues and is well regarded by everybody (barring the insane ones) that has used one.

I just bought two 440's to get into the 441 class without having to buy the 441. It's been said many times on AS, 441 is the same weight as the 460 with less power. It will use less fuel than the 460, I'll give you that, but it doesn't have the HP either so it should. Stihl will have to adjust their power to weight on that saw if they want to sell a lot more of them.

Replacing the 440 with the 441 was Stihl's best marketing strategy to sell
460's.

porting question on 441

I have always used stock saws (036 pro) and never had a need for a larger type saw until I started logging and pro firewooding. I know nothing about what is involved with porting a muffler or even where to have it done. Is it a matter of just opening the exhaust port more or is there more to it than that. Will it affect the life of the saw. My 90 day warranty has expired so I'm not worried about that. Does it make the saw louder? Are carb adjustments necessary? You guys have already helped alot Thanks
