I picked this up off ebay, a few days ago. The guy just had it listed as a Stihl Lightning, and turns out it has 1106s on the plate. It actually has a great story behind it. The previous owner, who bought it new, was Del Harrison. The seller said he had ties to the Finns logging. Has anyone heard of him? He said he would contact Dels wife and try to get some old photos of Del with his saw, which I think would be pretty cool. Anyway, it needs a little cleaning but that shouldn't be a problem. What do you think about the muffler? Enjoy!

An outstanding find! Pretty darn good condition as well. More pics when cleaned up and running - right?

I know this is supposed to go to the ebay forum but thought you all who don't go to that forum would enjoy seeing this apparently brand new military contra - which appears to show that the red bonnet is standard equipment.

It was on eBay once before in January 2010 if I'm not wrong:

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

Hey Carl,
Ya, there was one on eBay in Jan. but it NOS.
The auction was pulled! (probably for a good price!)
Snelling had a thread about it.
This one probably won't last long either!
Seller has a BLK the same as well!!!!!!

Do you Teddy.Scout think he has an air filter for a contra? I would buy it to get it
moving this way. :msp_ohmy::eek2::msp_mellow::) I hope he did not forget about it.

LOL!!!! Cliff!
Have 3 other obligations including yours to get at!
Work has been less then normal!
Have even held back on my firewood sales the past 3 weeks! We all no, you don't get those costumers back!
Or for a better idea, I have more then 4 1106 projects ready to be put back together, and I can't find a moment to wrench on them! Well one is a 1109 and another is a no label!!!!!
I am going thru with-drawls my self!

But the wife is trying to help!! (pic of her cleaning the shop!) The 070 is set up with a 28" hard nose and ripping chain! Just wish I could be running the saws more!

Here's another one, rescued from Ebay. Actually looks very, very nice. I had one previously that I sold that I realized was a repaint. This one is original. The top cover is a bit wrinkled, but not broken and the bonnet is near perfect. This saw is as I pulled it out of the box.

Is that the right ignition switch?

I am familiar with their early hardnose bars, but I never knew that Windsor sold roller nose bars.

This sprocket seems original, with that lip on the drum and the paint matching the rest of the saw.

SWEET! Even has the original chip deflector. I've never seen that before. Not much use there!

Stihl foolin' with those contras, are you?
Bet you're spoiled with driving up to the hills on Corridor H...took the wife up that way last weekend.

Hi Mikey...

Yeah the trip is nicer but surprisingly not significantly faster. I've got the 1st year Contra/Lightning on my work bench but haven't had time to touch it since I spent four months in Montana. That will change in two weeks though. :msp_biggrin: We'll all have to get together again when the weather turns nice and it isn't hunting season.

That's surprising about the length of the trip up there. I made it from my house to the end of Rt. 48 in one hour. Good luck with the Lightning, at least that will keep you ourt of trouble for a little while.

May I ask someone for detailed photos of the right side, front handle mount area of Contra AV/Lightning AV or 090? Is the short post, to which is bolted the silentblock, bolted/clamped to the saw body (as is the front handle on regular Contra and as I would suppose it to be), or is it cast in one piece?
One Contra AV is heading my way and from a bit blurry photos I can say just that the post is missing and the silentblock broken. So I want to know if I´ll just have to machine out new post or will need to prepare one awesome welder for tricky task. Otherways it´s a good, not much used runner. Just years of sometimes not-so-informed forgot and neglect left some mark on the outer appearance, so back into wood with the saw to finish the break-in.
Many thanks.

Frank, from memory it is a small alloy "peg" with a flat machined face to attach to the AV handle and it then bolts to the crankcase. The part is NLA but would be fairly straight forward to replace. I you still need pics let me know and I will do a couple for you of my Contra AV.

Many thanks. From photos that could be located here or on chainsawcollector.se it´s obvious that it´s just a peg, but details were covered by muffler or picture taken from too far/to much resized. The word "bolted" is the most important for me, since the photos of hopefuly soon my Contra are out of focus just to not be able to tell the difference between saddle for bolted-in peg or broken case. It made good sense to me just bolt the peg instead of standard handle, but with the minor or "minor" differences through production I was afraid of some surprise. Thankfuly, in those days engineers were making things the easy way and repairable, not bit*ing them like today.
Still, if I may bother You with taking the pics, I would ask You for them. Because it shall be pretty easy to make it just up to original, so why not to do so. Also, if I can ask You (or anyone) for exact dia. of the peg-since I suppose it will be a tiny bit oversized to saddle radius in the case, but way better to know how much than trying to stress the case too much. Ah, almost forgot-the OAL lenght of the peg, lenghts and widths of the flats for bolts would be also very helpful. I hoped I have someone to ask, but failed this afternoon. AV Contras seems to be nonexistant in my area east of the Iron courtain, even some Stihl dealers don´t know about them:dizzy:, not talking about the S, G or GS; quite sad...
Sorry for bothering You with photos and measurements (it´s the fate of willing and helpful people, to be bothered all the time:msp_unsure:), but realy don´t have other way to get them. Thank You once again

It will be the weekend before I get to it unless Teddy Scout may have one loose if he sees this post ? So if you don't get the info you need by the weekend I'll do that.

Thank You, Dave. It might take as much as two weeks :frown:until I get my eye and hands on it, so this weekend is perfect. But of course, more pictures of different build years from different people might bring out one more difference

Hey Frank,
There are two that I know of.
Both will work from one to the other.

The first one is from the EARLY AV style used.
Believe it was only 2 years back during the 1109 series Contra that these were equipped with the Lil'AV mounts.

Here is the common one I see 99% of the time.
These were used through both the Contra and 090-070 series.
Believe they went to a bigger-beefier style mount as the Lil-AV mounts look a little weak.
