Stihl ms361 vs ms362 vs Echo cs590

Ms 261 c-m is not availabe, so when you get it from another country (market), you have no effective warranty.

I don't think the 381 was because it won't meet emissions?

Who knows why big corporations decide to sell an item in one place and not some other. Emissions...maybe? Some sort of market analysis?

I don't think Echo has ever sold the CS-1201 in the US. I would guess that's due to marketing decision.

But, the 038M was followed, I think, by the 044. Stihl wouldn't want to be selling two 70 cc pro saws at the same time, in the same market. I don't think of the 044 as some marvel of low-emissions.

It is not like the 038 was followed by some strato cat saw.

I wouldn't buy a Stihl if it wasn't made in Germany, USA, or Canada
I wouldn't buy an Echo if it wasn't made in Japan or the USA
I wouldn't buy a Husky if it wasn't made in Sweden, USA, or Canada
I wouldn't buy a Dolmar/Makita if it wasn't made in Germany or Japan

The only thing Brazilian I like is the wax on a woman

Stihl went on to upgrade the 038M -----> 380----> 381------> 382. Still selling them outside N America and made in Brazil.
 
I cut a lot of hardwood in the 10"-18" range, some a little larger, not much that's smaller. I have an 026, but I do most of my bucking with an 036 wearing a 18" bar running .325 chain with a 9 pin rim sprocket, and I knock the drag links down just a little bit. My 026 wears the same bar and chain, but I keep the drag links stock and use it mostly for limbing. I do some bucking with it also, but normally that means the 036 is out of fuel or needs sharpened. As far as 361 vs 362, I've not been able to afford anything newer than an 036 so no advice there :)
 
apples to apples would be a echo cs600 or cs620 definitely not the 590. that said i have only owned the 362 and the 620 they in my opinion are to close in performance to say one is a winner it simply comes down to personal preference/dealer support. I still own a 620 and no longer own the 362 mostly due to cold starting (echo starts every time regardless of weather and that I ordered the echo with a wrap handle and didn't care to buy one for the Stihl) All that said if you're looking for a 18" bar saw a 261 would be a better match but an echo/shindawa 501, husky 550, Makita 5 series, or redmax GZ5000 are all worth looking at.
 
When it comes to a new version 362c and a 361..

I loved 361s, and still do for the nostalgia. But they were flat out dogs in stock form, I don't know if I ever seen a saw benefit more from a muffler mod than a 361, it's literally night and day in all departments power related.

But, the V2 362c has a better air filter, it's a little more torquey and it tunes itself. And for a saw that actually gets used those are all positive attributes.
 
Iron City, 361 here. I've been toying with modding my exhaust. Which way did you lean...Replacement with aftermarket unit or modifying OEM?

That's your decision. If you have the means/skill to split and gut the muffler and add another outlet then I don't know why you'd bother buying another muffler. Is there and aftermarket maker that sells one that's a hollow can ?
 
I know Bark Box is popular on this site. I haven't dug very deep, yet. I imagine there are other manufacturers. I suppose my reluctance is from it's from blowing up too many Arctic Cat's back in the day.

I certainly have the skill set, then I also thought of an aftermarket can, keeping the OEM stock in case I'd decide to reinstall the original.

They don't make a bark box for a 361, it's a one piece muffler.

Bark boxes work fine, whether you like the added noise is up to you.
 
Thanks for the correction. I'm all for added power, but not at the expense of what's left of my hearing

Just get a egan exhaust deflector, cut out a notch on the flywheel side of the muffler, put it on. That simple thing does wonders. Just watch your metal chips, get them all out before putting it back on and running it.
