Guys,

Will be picking up the STIHL dual port cover today from the dealer for my 660.

I use it 95% for milling, and sometimes for some of the heavier bucking that the 026 just takes too long to do.

I have read that the carb should be tweaked richer.

I'm assuming I have limiter caps on there ... but don't know if I can tune the carb to where I need w/o taking them off.

I'd ask the dealer who is a good guy, but he wouldn't know anything relative to milling ... deals mostly with home owners and tree service guys using smaller saws.

Thanks.

Mike

If you dont know how to properly tune the carb, carry the saw with you to the dealer, slap the cover on on the counter and have him tune it. If he is a good one, he will show you how to do it. If it aint set right, you will toast the piston and cylinder, most especially in a milling application. Tell him its gonna be under a heavy load, and needs to be slight rich.

Ask you dealer to tune it with a tach to around 12,000 rpm. Some CSM'ers would even say 11,000.

I don't like the dual port for milling, but I will say that its obnoxious sound makes it very easy to learn to tune the saw by ear, unlike some saws with effective mufflers.

You would think a dealer would know how to tune a saw but some don't, especially if the tuning was done by a flunkie or if they didn't use a tach. Eventually, you really need to learn to tune your own saws.
