I just stopped at the local Stihl dealer on lunch break and was shown the official memo from Stihl dated 9-23-03 where they/Stihl, inform the dealer that the prices are going up on all saws from 20.00 to 40.00 depending on the saw.
Effective 10-1-03.

I'm guessing it time for me to try a Husky...

The 346xp is looking real good as the next saw...
Rocky J. seems to like his as do a bunch of other guys.
When I first joined here I was going nuts and thought I needed
a monster saw...but time and advice tell me I need a better saw, and the 346xp is going to be it.

Well, maybe it will increase some of their resale value. Seems like they are going to have a hard time competing since they are already a little higher in prices than other saws. Only time will tell.

Maybe a few more people will end up with these. Dan im trying to convince my father to let me send it to you. Maybe after I get the 372 back and out cut him, he'll give in.

prices

Haven't seen it here yet. But then Stihl will come out with a program to sell it cheaper again. Of course this is done by cutting dealer margin. The rich get richer.

nothing here, just info on the MS361 and the HT100 and HT101

nothing on prices.

I would not blame those prices on Stihl. The bar was somewhat close, but they really got you on the chain. I discount when you buy both.

same here. discount on a combo...

you got ripped.

The cheapest you will find a 28" chain here is $32 plus tax. The general pricing is $4 above bar length. A 24" bar will run you $65 and I do not know about 28".

I don't see what all the fuss is about. A 20 to 40 dollar increase seems modest to me. How long do you think it will be before Husky and all the others go up, it's bound to happen sooner or later.

The cost of doing business increases so the price goes up, you follow suit raise your rates a little to cover it. No point in complaining about it as their is nothing you can do about it any way .

I was also wondering what a 361 was. It is probably a 360 with even more emission crap. thus the "1". There are all kinds of other Stihl saws out there. There is a seller from the UK on ebay now selling a wide variety of new saws. He is way overpriced but he has some odd saws such as a MS 340. I giess that would be an 034. He aslo had a MS 640. I was waiting to see of he came up with an 038 althought I believe I have a lead on some new 38 mags.

Bill, I was just visiting Stihl Australia's website the other day. Go to their chainsaws page and click on the two links containing the word "Professional". In one result you'll see the 038 Magnum listed and in the other you'll see the MS640. It's interesting to see that chainsaws down under come with "blades".

A visit to Stihl Canada's site here, lists MS340.
