Just mixed the first batch of Ultra yesterday and a few things right off.
1) Needed to retune the saw. Ran much faster
2) Way less smoke than regular 2 Stroke @ 40:1
3) Smell. Very odd smell. Wife was watching me mill a log and she asked me if the saw was ok it smelled so strange.
Does Ultra smell different?

Yes, it stinks, maybe like burning plastic? Might give you a headache too.

He was told that several times in other threads. Must not have believed it.

Yup. It happens.

Tried Lucas on a whim. Actually bought a little bottle about a year ago in a moment of weakness. Besides being a marginal quality oil, it stinks. To me, bad, very bad. Sickening. I am using very small quantities of it to colour interceptor mix now. I hate mix oils that have no colour.

I also don't like bar/chain lube that has no colour. Like the overpriced Echo winter stuff I bought in a moment of weakness. Didn't know it was clear like Larry Bird. I mixed some red stuff in there..

Several here have used the Lucas as low as 25:1 and reported back their findings. Nearly no sheen left on the piston at all and dry crank cases. To me, there is no way of knowing if you’re using enough oil if there is no residual oil in the crank case after a week of sitting.

Changing between oils won’t make a noticeable different to engine speed, neither does changing between ratios. I suggest the ambient temperature, dirty air filters, age of fuel, engine heat and tank volume play a far larger factor in tuning than any ratio or brand of oil ever will.
