If I buy a used Stihl 361 from a pawn shop but its less than a year old is the warranty stihl in effect?

The way I read the owner's manual, the warranty is not transferrable:

Warranty Period
The warranty period will begin on the date the utility equipment engine is purchased by the initial purchaser and you have signed and sent back the waranty card to STIHL.

*emphasis mine.

A great question. Depends on your state laws and how (if) the saw was originally registered. Most products are warranted for the original purchaser, but this varies by state. Many companies now simply state the warranty follows the product- this makes alot more sense. The 361 is not "by definition" a Professional saw- those are MS 440 & larger. A 361 registered as a homeowner's saw would carry a 1 year warranty. For professional purposes it would have a 90 day warranty, and for rental use a 30 day warranty. Has this saw been registered and if so, for what purpose. Get the serial number and post it, one of us Stihl dealers can run it and find out the info Stihl has.

It is actually the one on ebay under ms361 it looks like its in great shape but i was thinking why buy a used saw in good shape without warranty if you only save a hundred bucks. even a 150. I'd say a warranty is worth at least that not to mention that a new saw is , well, new. What do you all think?

While the warranty is nice. It is hardly worth $150. New is nice and only you can value that. How many of these saws require warranty service anyway?

If the Stihl saw is within the warranty period, it's transferable. For pro use, that's 90 days, for consumer (most saws) its 1 year. Your dealer can transfer the warranty for you but it actually doesn't need to be transferred if it was registered with stihl as only the date matters. About the only thing that won't be covered beyond the warranty period is the lifetime warranty items like Ignition coils - these only apply to the original owner.
