Any thoughts or criticism on the new mix oil?
I don't like the smell of it, but does it keep the engine properly lubed?

I'll be trying my first bottles of the blend this week, the ultra only seems available if I buy a case.

I like the smell! and the washing machine sure smells better!

Like most "real" 2 cycle synthetic mix oils - it will lube just fine:popcorn:

Please expand on "real". Brand or makeup, then blends would not be real?

food for thought

I recently emailed Stihl & Husqvarna regarding their recommendations for the use of synthetic or conventional oil. They both responded very quickly and advocated the use of synthetics. Stihl recommended the synth/blend (HP?)& Husqvarna recommended their new XP silver bottle. Husqvarna wrote that I would never switch back to conventional due to the superior protection/lube qualities of synthetic. I wonder how much their answers were influenced by the EPA push.

Real means "not Amsoil" etc.. but... that's another big argument in the making.

My 2c on blend - If you want synthetic, get a "full synthetic"...

Not sure it has anything directly to do with the epa, but the side effect of lean running "epa saws" is that a better lube sure can't hurt..

Bingo on the smell. I got me a case of HP for you know who, ME, and its much better on the nose and on the clothes. Going to use up this case and go to the full deal next time round....

Andy are you running the new synthetic in your 361???? if so do you like it???

I run it in everything... Like it - sure- cuts just the same as the old oil!

Only time will tell... but my saws never mess up (touch wood!) so my chances of seeing the internals are limited:)

All I know is every engine I pull down that's been run on a major brand synthetic is real nice inside... no matter how hard they have been worked or "abused".

I think I'll be running it in my new 361. If anything, the smell sounds to be a good plus.

i been runnin the stihl black bottle and so far smell is the only difference.I did notice that that particular dealer is only stocking that now so time will tell.

I like the smell of burning dinosaurs!

It's almost required if you have any 4-mix equipment unless you want some serious carbon issues.

Andy, are you running 50:1 or a little richer in the older saws?

Better clarify that "rich" word before this thread derails...

I run 50:1 MIX (premium non-alcohol gas) unless I'm milling... then 32->40:1, and with the carb set really RICH.

Stihl has tested the Ultra at 80:1 in 4 mix engines, and it is O.K., but they won't officially say it is because they know guys will end up puting it in saws, and it won't work real well for long...

I have always read where amsoil is one of the only real synthetic oils made ?? Just wondering now if this is true or not ? I was getting ready to switch my cummins over to amsoil synthetic.
