I just bought a new MS460 with a 25" bar. I was supprised that stihl does not make a case for this saw. the cases that they have only go up to 20" bars. It's not like it's some off the wall huge size saw. Does anybody know a source for a nice plastic protective case for this size saw?

Thanks,

Roger

case

yes they are hard to come by, here ya go, michelle from norteastern tree equp patterson nj will get one for you.

The reason Stihl doesn't make a case for that size saw is because it is a pro saw and is too big for most homeowners. Saw cases are typically a 'homeowner' thing.

ditto that,
can you imagine having 7-8 saws in cases in the back of your truck, or to find bins large enough to fit all of them, i can barely fit my saws in the saw box as it is now. tI have seen sthil cases and sear, polans etc.. but never husky, most homeowners use them for a bit and then realize that they occupies to much space.

I'm not a 'active duty' pro like you guys and I'd like a full case. The scabbard they gave me with it is only 14" this leaves 11" of sharp chain exposed. This could eaisly damage my lines or at least dull up the exposed teeth while in transport.

I'll try that northeast tree equipment and see if they have one, thanks.

the saw shouldn't be stored near your "lines" anyhow. A sharp chain isn't good for the ropes, but neither is fuel or bar oil.

Go back and get the bigger scabbard then, they have one that extends to fit a 28" bar.

I have two of the big square orange Husky power box cases but dont use the bar covers . The bar covers are what take up so much room . I as a homeowner saw owner dont use the saws every day so i take the bars off the saws every time(saw gets cleaned anyway) I have cut with others that say it too big of a PITA to take the bars off and takes too much time , these are the same people that dont take the time to clean there saw after the day anyway so i'm sure for them its a PITA . The square boxes are nice for storage because you can stack them . I stack the two square boxes and sit my third odd chainsaw box on top . Takes up less rooom when u stack them. The orange power boxes fit up to the 372XP in size. ( as it says )

didnt see you were in ct too, L and R power, trumbull monroe main st at the very least they can you give you a longer scabbard

When I take a heap of stuff with me it all goes in a big steel toolbox in the trailer.

When I take just one saw I put it in a plastic tub with a slot cut in it. The slot allows the scabbard to stick out the side of the tub, while the tub collects any spilt oil etc. By the time fuel, oil, tools, chaps, helmet, etc are put in the tub its a snug fit. Nothing rolls around.

The tub is no good for hand carrying the gear anywhere, but is a nice $5 solution for keeping oil off everything in transit.

Picture of Extended Scabard

Here is the scabard that I use for the 28" bar

It will also adjust down in size as the extention slides over the tip with various presets.

This came with my MS660.

Mike,
That extended scabard looks like what I need. My dealer said that they used to make that, but not any more. I'll ask him again. Now armed with the picture I can print it and show it to my dealer and say get me one.

If my dealer can't get it, I'll try L&R. I'm in Shelton, where are you?

your dealer should be able to order one from the book

there are 3 differnet sizes available. make sure he orders the largest size.
