strimmer damage-Help!

Hey guys, hope you can help, I was doing some line trimming just now and kinda slipped and hit an evergreen alder. This tree is about 6' tall and is just starting to shoot leaves.(southern hemisphere)I have taken off probably half the bark around the base of the stem(kicking myself!!) What can I do to minimise the effect of this damage?:bang:

maybe wrap it for a few days with clear food wrap to reattach bark and cut moisture loss. ?
