Have a 030 av...rebuilt carb..new ponts..condenser...impluse hose..fuel hose...starts easily on choke...take off choke....rpm's immediately increase drastically...will not idle down...L & H set at one turn....running lean....need your help to find out why??...baffled.....all suggestions appreciated...

Seals......

Since seals are rather inexpensive, I'll change both sides just to eliminate any possibility of changing the wrong one...hard to detect bad seals on some units...tgif

You might want to pressure test it first .. seals out on 030/31 are rare (but they do happen). Check your cylinder head bolts, and.. the gasket can have leaks even if they are tight.

Yes true, I made that post under the influence, I think I was setting up

Seal problems are rare on that series, you are right. But with a saw of that age, it is very possible

Pulled seals last evening...clutch side bad...pin in oil pump gear had dropped down ...rubbing seal....heated up...plasticized....seal came out in three pieces...outer ring...rubber ...spring........will replace this afternoon...will keep posted....thanks....

I know this belongs in the joke forum, but...

So a penguin limps his poorly running car into the service shop. The walrus behind the counter tells him they'll take a look at it. Should take about 20 minutes.

So the penguin goes for a short walk and comes upon an ice cream shop. He buys a vanilla ice cream cone and then heads back to the shop.

Just as he walks into the shop he trips and smashes the ice cream onto his face and beak... the walrus comes in to the office from the shop and says, "Hey Mr. Penguin, looks like you blew a seal."

030 comes to life after death

Installed drive side seal this pm...2 pulls with choke....cluck...cluck...off with choke 1 pull came to life....tweaked hi...lo..set idle....touched up chain...back in business....runs great...throttles up perfect ....settles to idle...very consistent....no problems...fires up on first pull....every time...runs like a stihl...thanks...16 bar ..38 chain...cuts white oak buried bar....plumb smooth...fair in face....:greenchainsaw: :greenchainsaw:
