Seen these guys in action at a friends house taking down trees next to his house and in between power lines and some REALLY bad spots..my friend asked for proof of insurance but they "forgot" to bring it..they assured they had it and would bring it tomorrow..next day "forgot " to bring proof of insurance again !! my friend has a garage with cars ( he moved ) and lots of stuff around they assured him he didnt have to move because they where so good at felling trees..
one thing i noticed was complete lack of PPE , poorly maintained saws with chains hanging down and dull, saws that wouldnt start,etc.. looked like QUITE a crew !!
come to find out they DIDN'T have insurance when this story hit the papers.. !!!!
and arrested on top of it all !!

So, after the geniuses tried to destroy the town, the power company and police (?) allowed them to finish cutting the tree that did the damage???? I bet they'll try to bill somebody for it.

two cars destroyed, power lines down,THOUSANDS of people out of power, traffic blocked,an arrest even !! :dizzy:
yeh, they let em do the tree i guess to get traffic going again..
they billed them for everything,,no money, cant pay..
thier STILL working tho !!
they take cash only,,dont think they know how to sign thier name on a check..

Just goes to show, when you are the bottom of the heap and don't own anything they can't take it away from you. Not good tree experts and not very clever. I guess the thing to take away from something like this is you have to be forceful sometimes with people. Unfortunately you can't just take someones word anymore about things like insurance. I always carry atleast one million dollars general liability all the time and when needed I have bumped it to two million to be able to cover some jobs I work on. I just call my agent and they will fax a copy of my proof of liability to to any client who asks. Takes about 2 min. of my time total. Accidents do happen but I have had this coverage since 1985 and have never had to use it but it's there.

That incident happened just a few miles from me. I travel that stretch of road pretty often. I'm proud to say I don't know any of the players in that story personally.

Good no one was hurt. I resent these people being called loggers, I know loggers, have logged a bit myself. They ain't loggers, and they ain't utility guys.

I've met the reporter who wrote the story for the paper. Nice guy. Pretty smart. But the distinctions between different kinds of tree work is lost on most folks.

This commercial comes to mind:

i live not 1/2 mile where those idiots cut those trees. yeah my powre was out and i was cursing them. met those guys a couple of times. they are the ones that give loggers a bad name. i told them so. they thought the tree would fall away from the road so thye didn't think they needed to pull it over with the skidder. i would atleast hooked it to the skidder and had someone watching traffic. i also knew the homeowner. them idiots claim they never got a bill for anything.

aha ! must be from farmtown ??
was that DJ ??? i get them confused with the other idiots around same area..
neither of them 2 crews mind selling purple wood to a mil ! LOL !! even THEY wont cut it up for fire wood !!

Here we have to have Public Liability (plus Personal Accident insurance if you aren't an incorporated company), otherwise you wont get let onto most places.

Having said that none of the fencing contractors I've seen around here (bar one) wear any PPE at all, including goggles or muffs.
Most all our timber fencing is hardwood with a lot post and rail around here as it's thoroughbred breeding country so lots of big and not so big Thoroughbred Studs so lots and lots of fencing and sawing.

yep i'm in farmington. nope wasn't DJ. they were renting/using his skidder. DJ wasn't involved though and even he wouldn't do something that stupid.

Relatives

All I can say is WOW !!!!

That was a mess.

I may have had their long lost relatives working on my farm at one time; or at least they learned the same techniques.

Notice even after the power company got the power back on they had problems...causing more outages. Hard phase to ground faults like that strain the system and burn open taps/connectors elsewhere, so they cause a domino effect and disturb even more people that werent involved in the original caper. I work for a large utility here and almost every Saturday night I can count on some drunk driver to try and commit suicide knocking down one of our poles, usually around 2-3am..gotta love it...
Good reference WB my wife buys all my saw stuff too
