Here's one better. A so-called tech at the Stihl dealer knew I was into the old 031s (at the time). He mentioned he picked one up and wanted to know if a 310 coil would retrofit. I told him not even close. I asked if it was a points 031 or electronic. He didn't know but said he would find out. A week or 2 goes by and I asked if he figured it out, said he hadn't found the time. I told him give it to me and I'll fix it for you. No response. Next time I was in the dealer he sold me the saw for $5 even after I reiterated my offer to repair it. Took it home, intalled a Nova module and it turned into my best running 031. His boss later on asked about the Nova module and I sold him one for what I paid for it. Seriously.

Thinning the herd

Here's what I have:
A Mac PM850 that's in decent shape, runs great, and has about 160 psi compression. For honesty's sake, there is one screw missing on the black rewind/starter, and the other two are about stripped. There is also a crack on the bottom of the yellow flywheel cover (so basically the only issue is with the yellow starter cover piece). I picked it up off craigslist a while back with the intent of using it as a work saw; but after much consideration, I don't want to wear out a saw that may be collectable to someone. I hate letting it go... but it's time.

I also have a Homelite super xp1020 automatic that SHOULD run if someone could come up with the missing parts. It turns over good (with a drill) it seems to have compression (will back off flywheel nut when trying to check compression with drill). The clutch side lower handlebar mount is broken off the case, the fan cover is broken, and the rewind is gone. The fuel tank is also pretty nasty. It does have a healthy spark, and everything other than the starter appears to be there.

Next is a McCulloch 1-40? It turns over- and that's about all I know. Maybe someone needs parts?

I won't bog this down with pics, but I can post/send more pics if anyone is interested.
