Can you not upgrade to a 12mm crank while you have it apart anyway? Piston availability is much greater for the 12mm rod.

I was told yesterday that I should not mix old style cylinders with new different style pistons(10 mm. to 12mm.) as porting had slight differences, and rings can catch.Another member stated that yeaterday in my 044 ID post. I don`t want this to turn into a debate, just want to find a used crank. If 12mm. will work with my old 044 cylinder, than so be it.I`m looking for a 044 crank 10mm. or 12mm.(if 12mm. will work)

The only problem you'd run into is if you try to put a later 12mm style cylinder on an early OEM 10mm piston. Other than that you can mix and match all you want.
No worry there, one of the crank shaft bearings is sticking out of the top of the piston! Thanks guys.Still Looking for a 044 10 or 12mm. crank.I do know Baily`s has them. This saw is one of those, use what`s cheapest projects. Not what`s best.

To add to that, I don't believe you can put a 12mm crank in your early 10mm cases......I got the impression that was what FatJoe was thinking about doing?
I am still in need of some 026 parts. Hoping somebody here has some parts laying around before I order them.
I need....
WT194 carb
Air Filter....I have a new MS260 filter I would trade
Bar plate and screw
AV plug w/ chain catcher
About all I have for trade fodder is a real nice 044 jug w/o decomp.
Let me know what ya got.
Thats exactly what was suggested to me.Can a 12mm. crank be put in an older 044 case? Now this is getting confusing. Some of you are saying to upgrade to 12mm.Some are saying I can`t.So, do I need to buy a 10mm. crank or a 12mm? Come on guys... which is it???
You have to use a 10mm crank in your 10mm case as near as I know, as the the 12mm crank is bulkier and won't go into the 10mm cases. Like jacobJ said, to be safe you shouldn't use a 12mm cylinder on your 10mm cases either. The rest of the parts on either saw will interchange just fine, but your 10mm crank, cases, piston and cylinder need to stay 10mm......That's the way I understand it.

Ok, so upgrading is out of the question.I`m looking for a good condition usable 044 crank with a 10mm.pin.Used is fine. Thanks for the info.
I think the crank bells will rub on the case if you put a 12mm crank into a 10mm saw. But I'll bow down to whatever JJ says will work. He's the man, when it comes to these things.
I've put many a 12mm crank in 10mm cases. It isn't that hard. The cylinders are compatible with either set of cases, that isn't the issue. The OEM 10mm piston has narrower ring locating pins allowing a ring end to catch on the wider intake port of the newer 12mm cylinder. Aftermarket 10mm pistons aren't a problem.

ha ha. Thanks. I just wasn't sure. I thought I read on here a couple years ago about someone doing just that and said the crank bell rubbed on the case? Maybe he Farked it up. Its good to have your around here to clear these things up.

Will.....You and I must have been reading all the same stuff........Another day, another lesson learned.....Thanks Jacob!
