No Scott. That's not gonna help me much. Mines just had a repair to the bar stud. Someone used a insert to repair it with and it leaks bar oil.....and it also uses a different nut. It looks fine I was just hoping to find a better case. Mine is a Mag II BTW...

I used to be real big into 038 Mag II's, there made in Brazil (except very few first ones) and I noticed a few differences sometimes in cases, I would stick with your case as there a little stronger. There was always more material around the PTO bearing oil pump and front bucking spike area. You really can't swap case halves on these without issues. All others were made in Germany. I would fix yours better before going any other route. Weld it and retap or re Heli Coil, I have the bar stud if needed.
These are the best of the 038 line up, I've had at least one for the last 10 years, had like 6 not too long ago, back to my original "1" now and a parts case. (broken)

Thanks for the great info Duane. I know a good machinist that might be able to reinstall the original style stud.

Yah Randy it should be no big deal, seen lots of saws fixed, I know my NOT so local (60 miles away) saws shop/tractor dealer only charges $30.00 to weld and tap just about anything, mounts, bosses etc. I imagine its not to different back there.
I wouldn't mess with cases on a Mag II, most cases you'll get wont be a Mag case because people don't know there different.
A few months back 038 cases where $30.00 on "rip off bay" not now!!! seems to a following now

If you loctite the insert in then loctite the stud in, it should seal it up.

Bar stud repairs

A bar stud is one of the easiest case repairs to make and unless the case has a crack radiating away from a stud hole, you should never have to scrap a case on account of a boogered stud hole. In most cases you do not even need to split the cases, but you will need access to a lathe to make the repair sleeve. Drill out the stud hole nice and smooth. If the cases are already split, you can use a drill press for this step but this is not strictly necessary. Using a hand drill, just line up the drill carefully and that will be good enough. Make the sleeve from the shank of a good grade bolt (either 5 or 8 grade) First square both ends and then turn it down for ~.003" interference fit with the hole you just drilled. Then drill a hole specified for the thread of the Stihl bar stud (I forget the size but you can find that info anywhere; it even comes stamped on the tap:msp_biggrin:). Then tap that hole to the bar stud thread and the sleeve is done. Coat it with Loctite 635, hammer it in the hole and you're done! Once hammered flush you can barely tell there's even a repair!

Randy.....Is your case beyond using an 056 Magnum bar stud???......That's the slickest fix, if it's not too far gone. I've made some pretty oversized sleeves on the lathe to repair a couple too.

If all else fails, I should have a Magnum case, that I could get on the next dog sled heading south. :)

Can anyone help me figure out exactly what parts is missing here? The saw is a Husqvarna 50. I know there is a rubber bushing that goes in the tank, but I cant figure out what goes through the case to hold it together. I thought it might just be a little bolt with a chain catcher on it like the 44/61/66/266 models, but the hole looks a little big for that. I've looked at every IPL on the net I can find, and still haven't come up with anything. Thanks.

The rubber plug pops into the case, and protrudes into the tank. Then the plastic chain catcher pops into the plug and bolts to the case.

Here is a link to the ipl.

Hey guys I need a clutch cover/chain brake for my Husqvarna 50. I have parts off of a dolmar 111i. The missing pieces off of the Dolmar are p&c(warped got it) and the chain brake(huskydude got it), any other pieces that I might have are up for trade. Thanks guys.

056 Mag II cylinder, I think someone here was looking for one. This one's in good shape.

Also I'm looking for a 036/ms360 OEM topend.

Anyone have any interest in this?

Runs good, idles, oils, has no busted up parts and is low hours as there are still machine marks on the slug.

May want to do a fuel line just for insurance, and throw a new chain and air filter on it. It's wearing a 20" Stihl bar.

Sorry I don't have any shop talk vids to go along with it.

Looking to trade for saws, or crumpled green junk.

By the way I'm looking for an air filter for a Johnny's Red 49sp.

Chris

Had a few people send me offers, but have't found anything yet I was too interested in....

I have quite a few other saws I'd trade off also.

How about a $20 Starbucks gift card? You can get a few non-fat chai frapamochachino soy late foofoo drinks (in sustainable, earth friendly "Green is Great" cups) with that...:givebeer:
