Got the old thing running today. The jug was still in good shape so I Cleaned the burnt anuminum off it and only orderd piston and rings. I put it back together, squirted a little oil on the piston to lubricate good and she fired right off. After listening to the comments on this board I dont think I will do away with the compression release. I am going to guess a mistake burnt the piston instead off a flawed saw.
Thanks for all the good input

Way to go, getting her running again! Make sure it returns to idle quickly after a cut, and make sure it idles steady. A wandering idle may mean an air leak, which could have killed it to begin with. I am sure you know that already, but if not, take it for what it's worth. Post a picture or two...everyone likes pictures.
