Lots of good points and history lessons to be learned here...

"I'd rather be tried by twelve than carried by six."

Now what Hitler said is a little scary... because guess what, we've got full gun registration here as well... if you're buying it from a firearms dealer, that is. This still is a step towards complete control.

However, the 'sell secondhand with no registering' does not cover handguns. Only covers shotguns and rifles. You need a permit or purchase license to obtain a handgun. Except for criminals, of course. They don't follow laws and have found all kinds of ways around them.

For full autos and other fun stuff, you need a Class III Federal Firearms License... not that cheap, and there is a tax on full autos, suppressors, and explosives...

Old relics like HK G3's, FN FAL's, AK-47's, M2 and M3 Carbines, and the other old classic full autos are quite limited in numbers in the legal full auto registry... since it is not legal to import or register them nowadays. Those were 'grandfathered' in. Only new manufacture full autos are somewhat cheap (2000 bucks on up) and readily available.

They say the full auto ban only made a few people rich... and that's true. A real G3 runs well over 30,000 on the legal full auto market these days. I have no idea what they run on the black market, and I don't think I want to know.

BS gun laws and politics piss me off. #### political correctness. #### the bull#### the gov. feeds us (or attempts to do so, anyways...)

I figure some of those with full autos may in fact not have fallen into the registry... kinda like some Aussies that simply shuffled the gun away somewhere and never spoke of it again.

The TSA comes to Oz, full body scanners in airports - Full-body scans rolled out at all Australian international airports after trial | News.com.au

I remember going through a magnetic scanner at an airport in Papau New Guinea where the operator was kicking back reading a comic book. Nobody was setting off the scanner, I looked over and saw the scanner was unplugged from the wall. Of course, cannabalism is still practiced in some parts of PNG, so if someone would have been stupid enough to try and hyjack the aircraft - they may have ended up an in-flight lunch.

that's the beauty of living in OZ, lots of places to hide stuff :msp_sneaky:

Lol.

What do you gotta do when you do want to shoot the gun?

Bring a shovel and dig it out during the night? Shoot some mags through it, clean it, and then bury it in its waterproof kangarooproof crocodileproof sharks with lasers proof bag?

:msp_sneaky:

Up north here in Michigan, there surely are places to hide stuff... but obviously still not like the vast outback there in Aussieland...

Still gonna have to visit you crazy funny Aussies someday... :)

According to this map, I'm gonna have to arm myself properly for each touring area...

Probably gonna need some huge hooks and piano wire to catch the sharks with frickin' lasers, right?

How do I deal with Steve Irwin? I hear he's a bit on the 'Crikey!' side...

What about the giant rats and angry natives? Maybe that's where a Marlin 336 comes in?

But yeah as far as hiding stuff it sounds a lot more simple than it actually is. Although there are lots of secluded hiding places most country people don't miss a trick. If anybody sees a vehicle somewhere it's not supposed to be they tend to remember.

Immigration to Australia is usually very difficult, however it looks like it was just made easier.

If any of you Yanks want to immigrate to Oz, just fly over for a visit. Then when it comes time to leave, just refuse the body scanner at the airport - no scan, no fly.

I wonder how this is going to work out for tourists that find themselves 'imprisoned' in Oz. They have the tickets, but the government won't let them leave unless they go through a scanner.

Of course, this is all to make Oz a safer place - by scanning people LEAVING Australia.

Ya can't make this stuff up.

Lol.

Lmao crazy funny aussies we are! :blob2: I can hide anything when living on a 300acre heavily timbered spread surrounded by 10's of thousands of Hectares of national park/state forests down the far south east corner of N.S.W, there's 1000's of old Gold mine shafts and tunnels from the 1800's, the Chinese hit this area hard in the gold rush days when the quarts reefs where pickaxed.

Yeah, people hide stuff - then tell other people how clever they are. I remember a bloke that shot his mouth off about hiding his SKSs, buried in the shed, with the tractor parked over it so the metal detector couldn't find them. When the police came, they had him move the tractor and dug them up - easy bust.

I used to give speeches to gun clubs about the firearms laws. I would start out with, "I know you have unregistered guns" - Crikey, that got their attention. They would stop at what ever they were doing and stare at me. "I know you have unregistered guns, because you tell me you have unregistered guns. You think that's not a problem because I'm 'cool'. Well, how many other 'cool' people have you told, and how many 'cool' people have they told? - Just shut up!" - I then went on with the rest of my presentation with their full attention.

Not bad Kyle. You flubbed a couple important bits (this stuff is HARD to get right). NO full auto weapons/receivers can be transfered to civilians (other than Class III dealers) if they were manufactured and/or registered after May 10, 1986. No full auto weapon or receiver (or weapon or receiver that EVER was full auto, even it was permenantly modified to be SA only, such as an M-14 with the selector tang cut off the receiver) could/can be imported for civilian sale after 1968. The only cheap, new production FA stuff is restricted to military, LE agency (not individual officers) and certain dealers.

There are "pre 1986" and "post 1986" "dealer samples" The "pre" guns are FA's that were imported and registered after 1968, but before 1986. There was a "one time" amnesty period in 1968 for folks to register FA's and destructive devices that weren't registered between 1934 (think NFA of 1934) and 1968. NOTHING was EVER "grandfathered in". The "post" guns are FA's that were imported or manufactured after 05/10/1986. "Transferable" FA's were registered before 1968. They command a premium, as they are limited in supply. That's where the "made a few men rich" thing comes in. The dealer sample FA's bring less money, with the "post" guns being the 'cheapest'. That's because few people can buy them. Ever see what the LE agency price is for a Colt or Bushmaster M4? About $800 IIRC. In some states (like California......dammit) all of the NFA toys are verboten, even the transferables...:bang:

Is this all clear as mud? There is MUCH more to all this, but we are running WAY off course here. Sorry my Australian brothers.

How can you derail a thread called "the all aussie dribble thread!"

The point was to have a place to go with the flow and talk about everything and nothing all at the same time.
It is more like a normal conversation not to have to stick to the topic, there are all of the other threads to do that in.

Yeah, I remember the headlines (yes, the news even made it over here) when they said he received a stingray stinger to the chest... they mentioned he pulled it out, which was a bad idea. Either way, there probably was nothing anyone could do.

As for hiding stuff... yep. Gotta be sneaky.

Immigration to Australia is usually very difficult, however it looks like it was just made easier.

I just don't get what the people are thinking... they must be smoking something.

Find gold in them mine shafts yet? :D

OPSEC... the key to being successful in hiding stuff and is a general survival/readiness must follow rule.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. Those anti-gun ####s piss me off, they totally ruined the full auto thing for everyone... :blob2:

Sorry to say this, but that is one more reason to never live in California...

Never read that book... I'll see if my pops knows anything about it. I'm not sure, but he may have the book... he's bought a lot of books as of more recent times... good ones too, and ones that really clear things up and gives me (and others) ideas on what should/needs to be done.

Oh, and I lost all respect for Schwarzenegger after his stupid anti-gun stuff was put in place as governor... he's only good for an actor. That's it... he needs to stay out of politics... "We're gonna ban .50's because they're just too dangerous." My ass. It's the idiot shooting the thing that you gotta worry about... like did they check for a good back stop?
