A mate mounted a hiab to a frame he lifts with the 3ph on his tractor. It's only a 70hp tractor and squats down when he's mobile but it's bloody useful when you need it.That's a nice crane truck that one. If only I could take one of those into the forests.....hmm. Reckon I could do 3 seasons in a day, easy. Getting caught with that though I think I'd be in a bit of strife.
Far out ya can get a whole truck n trailer load of gum for 1200 bucks here 1500 for really nice straight stuff. Usually old farm trees so pritty big but not tooo big a 24inch deals with it 28 be nice but a pain at the same time. Pine used to be cheap but thanks to china ya mite as well get bluegum instead. They went crazy planting bluegum here theres 70 too 120 plus year old trees everywhere almost like there natives now. The magpies came over too haha
Wish I could get it delivered for that.
I dunno mate. Always thought it'd be way more than that. But I'll look into it for sure and let you know. The trouble with the Far North is it's generally nowhere close to where the markets are so transport costs kills many otherwise interesting ideas. If I could get a regular and reliable supply of suitable logs, I'd consider a yard somewhere to process, but I'm mobile and generally the one knocking the trees over, in Summer at least. Is it not the same up there? What you paying?

Perfect way to do it. How many m3 of firewood do you reckon you get from a T&T load of logs?Yea im hearing ya there man at least you've got trees to knock over i guess. Me n a few mates buy them in and can sell a couple loads here n there to pay for it so just your own time is all it costs for firewood its a good social time too. A few beers the wives do sum food and a good ol gossip haha good famly fun

Thanks. 50m3 at a max of $30/m3 leaves about $70/m3 to cover your costs, time, etc. Not a bad way to do it either. Onya for cleaning up the bike trails for everyone ;-)Umm hard to say really it starts getting burnt a bit buy the time wee get to the end but gota be somewhere 30 to 50 odd at a very wild guess. Someone who does it for a living will know exactly. Your pile our pile and his pile kind of deal really.
I scavenge what i can find too ive got a good little thing going in the local park lately its an old quarry in Town a long valley and is kinda steep full of mtb and walking tracks. Theres lots of dead or fallin trees in tricky places mostly blue gums and pines i drop them really early like 6 30 7 am and sneak them away with a mate b4 all the fitness people start coming thru about 8 or 9 on a sunday hehe. Kinda dodgy but there hazards any way and need to be dealt too and a permit would be a nightmare so just do it on the sly hi vis and a hard hat n no one cares so far. Clean up dont trash plants n tracks or piss anyone off seems to be working. I ride 80km a week in there on my mtb so i know the place and the people and generally get smiles and waves.
Those barking bars look good

troofYea its a good deed for the users of the place and keeps a young family and elders warm but the council will never see it like that. Health n safety crap what ever happened to own risk? Id happily cone out an area with signs the hole jazz sign wavers but instead i gota sneaky it. I bet they would pay a contractor stupid money to do it but slam someone for doing them and rate payers a favour hahaha funny old world. But yea buying logs is the way for sure at the moment any way but the centre pivots are wiping the belts out pritty fast though so it may not last forever.
