Oh, I have always been a big fan of semi chisel. In California and Southern Oregon, I used it almost exclusively. People back east think we only have soft timber here like pine and fir. Ain't so. They also do not have a clue what euc or Madrone is like, cutting or burning.

Only one and it was one of the very first Chinese Stihl copies from the late 60's. It only took a few decades before they managed to at least spell Stihl correctly.

Typical bloody Kiwi I spelt it correctly .... go for a wander up to the shed and get the model numbers if you can count ..... he,he,he

Those figures are wrong mate. Dry Redgum is around 850kg/m3. Some of the Box species are up around 1100kg/m3 and we have White Mallee stumps here that can go 1250kg/m3. I've shot White Mallee stumps with my .25/06 and only left a 10mm deep pock mark. .22LR rounds bounce straight off.

On a side note Andrew Box is notoriously tough and rumored to be near bulletproof.

When we start talking about the Box family of wood as in cutting dry gets very interesting, alot of sharpening, swearing and beer helps.

Keep an eye on the Andrew bloke hes no good.

I cut some eucalyptus here once (we just call it ALL bluegum) it was lying down in the grass and been sitting for years.

Holy smokes was it hard going. Blunted 4/5 chains to get enuff to fill the trailer. Then found that I could not lift the rings either. I ended up using wedges and a sledgehammer to split it down. The colour inside was nearly purple. Poor trailer when loaded sure sat down on its springs.

During the big wind storms we had here in September plenty of these trees were uprooted. The root system here is shallow compared to most other trees so are pretty vulnerable. The plot we are working at the moment has several that we will be cutting up so as we have completed clearing the Macrocarpa and the Pine. I will try to grab some pics tomorrow.

In the meantime we really need to spend some time at home clearing up some piles of rings.

Yep. We have Black Box here and that's a shocker. I've cut Yellow Box and Grey Box before and that was bad enough. The lower the rainfall the harder the gear gets :)
Rumour has it that tungsten chain is needed to even scratch that Andrew Box species.

Joking gees. In not allowed to have saws in the house any more which means I need to clean some shelves off in the shed
