Probably been milled with. That and the 8 and 9 pins I was playing around with don't help.

One of the tree pros around here uses 8 pin on 460s with a 20" bar, and puts full skip chain on it.

In my mind, he is robbing Peter to pay Paul (8 pin & full skip). His logic, less cutters to sharpen.

A penny for your thoughts?

8 pin helps but full Skip on anything less than 28" I wouldn't think of using Skip.

No expert either but I run full comp on ms 461 up to 32". I run 7 pin. Tried the 8 but couldn't see much difference.

Yea, in the real world even on my ported 046 I prefer 7 pin. I like torque, and if there is a minor pinch, I want that chain to keep spinning.

And with full comp square file on a 24" bar, it seems to cut just as fast with the 7 pin. The 8 pin just makes it easier to slow the chain down.

I run 8 pins on certain saws. Depends on what I use it for and the chain setup. I ran a 390 a few weeks ago with a 36" and 8 pin.

On 90 cc saws I can see it, and also for other saws if the bucking is controlled (like having heavy equip, etc, to hold the log). But when it is just you the tree and the saw, I'll take the 7 pin.
