The PM-6 is 2.0 CID. The smallest Poulan XX's (I have one--POS) made were 1.85. I think the 015 was a little larger. Those little O&R saws were right around 1, IIRC.

Yeah, Robert, but that was $345 Canadian which came out to be only $1.37 US (though admittedly stihl too much).

just a guess but i think the cs3000
is the smallest saw ,that is sold in
great quantities. rite good little saw.
i know ,i know ,it not as good as the 3400. just one or two ounces lighter.
dem ounces count up.:D :D

35 an 015

I dunno what the smallest size sa ever is...woulkd like to hear tho!
But I do know that Husky35 , and its Stihl counterpart were made by SOLO and brand labled for the other ...a saw marketed under 3 names was unique in those days so im sure the volume was high..but it could never equate to the volume of the mass marketed Poulans or MAC's.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Stihl has never had an outside vendor or manufacture make any of their production saws. On another note. I had a customer a few years back come into the shop and argue with me that Stihl was made by Husky. All I could do was keep my laughter pent up until he left. :D

Well SedanMan, Methoss, You must attempt to weed out the wheat from the chaff,
I most likley dont have the ability to PROVE anything to you fellas, and will never attempt to. Just sharing my knowledge here for you all to "take it or leave it".
Continue believing what you want, I will simply continue to offer up what little I can to attempt to contribute to this Fine message exchange, and hope I learn more ever time I visit.

It would not surprise me that a saw or two sold with the
Stihl name, were made by another. Or the majority of the
parts, then assembled by Stihl. Some of the trimmers were.
Tecomec or Mahle made cylinders and pistons for some of the
saws didn't they? I don't know, but this is interesting.
What saw models were made by Solo?

Nearly every European saw I have has a Mahle jug. They sure get around.

I'd be interesting in hearing which Stihl saws are Solos. Usually, outsourced machines look a lot like their maker (FS36 trimmer and '80s pro Homelites, for instance).

RGR that John...and for those interested...just go to the Stihl site and look at any of the non-USA sites..you will find MANY non-Stihl manufactured products there under Stihl labels..and guess what?...even ELECTROLUX mowers!..(AYP manufacture) Even a HUsqvarna/Electrolux Trademark, The Viking brand, also promoted there, and the collaboration still goes on today..that tiller you find on the Stihl German site in also marketed in the USA under the SOLO label..I dont know say who actually makes it. But the ones ive seen say "made in germany" on em, and they have HONDA engines here in the USA.
Hope im not burstin and bubbles of BLIND BRAND LOYALTY here!LOL!!!!

I am not certain of the Stihl number of the Solo saw..as its was many years ago..pre-Virgina Beach production era. But above someone said 015..that may be it. The Husky model was 35..and there were a few handle variations ,,but all very similiar.
heres a pic of saw with Husky cloths on.
the Stihl was also orange an white of course, same engine, and the one I have has a different handle..more "top handle" you might say, with no antivibe, but its the same engine.

"Dagger, To my knowledge Stihl never sold a saw they didn't make. Prove me wrong." -SedanMan.

Now, Sedanman, I am not attempting to "prove you wrong" just attempting to help with the "to my knowledge" part.

Talking about the 015 got me thinking. Not the Husky 35, but the 32. It was made by Solo for Husky, and bears a striking resemblance to the 015. Although I think it did come out several years after the 015.

Dagger, I don't want to fight with anyone. The "Prove me wrong" comment was an invitation to educate me not a slap in the face with a glove. However, If the saw you posted a picture of shares the same engine with an 015 it's news to me. I'm restoring an 015 from the first year of production, 1973 and it has the Stihl logo cast into the crankcase. I may be loyal to Stihl but I'M NOT BLIND! All 015's have the starter rope bushing as part of the left side cowling, A/V models have a seperate plate for acess to the rewind springand roope rotor. Do you have any other picture of that saw? Here's one of an 015. Note the 015 left side cover looks shorter.

Dagger, I'm not looking to argue with anyone on this forum like Sedanman. I don't know everything either. But I'm pretty sure that "Solo" didn't make any kind of 015 saw for Stihl. In working at a Stihl dealer for 10 years I never came across an 015 that looked like the one you showed. I would however like to see it. I'm always looking for oddball saws that no one else has.
