that 795L looks like it has the gear drive handle bar on it. Whats the story with that?

It does, this is how I got it. I have been looking for the right one
for it. So far I have not found one yet.

When I was doing the end-of-summer cleaning of the garage yesterday, I just know I kicked at least one into the corner for later...

ah well, you'll feel me :D.

They have a PILE of them?????:msp_scared:

Are you sure they're 77's (or 73's) Sam? Those were the 7.3ci/120cc McMonsters of old. Most of the time, McCullochs you'll find that look similar to this saw are a 47 or 4-30. Common stuff. If there's a 49 at your shop (smaller displacement version of a 77), MAKE SURE you hook Mark up with it. He needs one to complete his collection of these saws IIRC. If there are multiple's of that model, I immagine he'd want 'em all to piece a runner togetether. I think he has a 73, but I don't know how complete it is.

They're actually not hard to work on. The hard part is finding carb diaphragms for them. See Mark's thread on these saws. Grab one (or more) if you're up for a bit of a challenge. There were NOS rings, a conrod, and a crank on feebay a while ago, as were a couple diaphragms. The 77 takes the common large-Mac air filter (250, etc), while the 73 has an oddball filter. These saws have the most fantastic castings that I've ever seen in a saw. An exercise in well executed over-engineering. The 'carburetor system' wouldn't fit in a shoebox if you took it all apart. There's a reason why these saws cost $500 in 1957. That's something like $4000 in today's funny-money...

Interesting, I'll have to grab a few of the nicer ones next Saturday. I'll check on a 49 for Mark, I'm sure they have one lurking around....you ought to see his Mac 2-mans:)

You have one you want to send, sell, give me?

I'm watching and waiting Sam.

Sorry Cliff. I forgot to look in the McParts box for a 795-895 handlebar bracket. I believe I do have at least one good bracket I can send you. Do you need the handlebar too? I've got at least one, but they'e a bit dinged/dented up IIRC. Whatever I find, you can have. I'll send you a pic when I dig the part up, and you can decide if you want it. If it turns out you don't want what I've got, it sounds like Charles will have what you need. I'd be interested in the gear drive top handlebar bracket that's on your 795L (and handlebar if it's different from the DD handlebar) if you don't need it after swapping parts out...:D

Cool! I see that Mark noticed your post, and that Lee's interested too. I'd possibly be interested in a 77 if there's an "leftover" complete one after you grab what you're after.

Found a handlebar/bracket in a box of stuff that Lee graciously sent me earlier. The handlebar's actually in pretty good shape, except for a good dent in the vinyl coated top section and a couple dents/bends in the corner nearest the saw's guidbar. The top dent bent the handlebar a bit. The bracket's a bit bent up in some spots, but could be straightened up without too much trouble. The only real flaws on it are the four extra holes somebody drilled in it. My guess is that the rubber mounts (which are still attached under the bracket) had the screws that attach 'em to the tank casting pull through. Somebody drilled two holes in between the screws that attach the mounts to the bracket. These holes allowed them to run longer screws through the bracket and rubber mounts, straight into the tank casting. One of those longer screws is still in the bracket. See the top pic. Let me know if you want me to send you the bracket or the bracket and handlebar. I still have your address, unless you've moved in the last year.:D

Is it just me, or do those Mac wrap handles almost always have the same dent in the same place on top?

The handle bar will work Aaron.
If want to trade handle bars,I will do that.

Works for me either way. Shipping'd be cheaper if we just swap brackets. I'll have to check the part numbers on the IPL's to see if the handlebars are different parts. I'll do that tonight when I have more time. Off to work in a couple minutes. We'll discuss more later...:D

Here are a few more.

2 Homelite 650 supers:

Stihl 090G with a 48" Cannon bar:

Stihl 075 (runs but needs a chain)

Damn JP. You HAVE been busy. I'm partial to the Homelite Super 650's (of course), but those Stihls are a nice score as well. That 48" Cannon on the gear drive Stihl is fantastic. You've hit a hot streak for sure.

You know when you have a big bar on a 090G, because you need to put a block of wood under it to keep the 30 pound power head from tipping over, lol.
