This is for those running the new 441.... What do you think?

I just got a nice little coupon to knock a few bucks off of any Stihl saw and was thinking about rounding out my little Stihl collection(see my signature at bottom). I've got 3 Stihl dealers here and one only has the 440 and is pushing it(not much of a shop anyway). The other two are pushing the 441 even though they have the 440 and 460 in stock. In fact, they claim that the new 441 is holding its own against the 460. Both have 3/4 wraps. I suspect it has been out long enough to work most of the bugs out right?

I just want to know whether you guys that are running them are liking them? How is it compared to the 460? to the 440?

Grab up the search function (not the tits on my sig below). The 441 has been arguably the most discussed saw here in the last 6-8 mos.

Better plan on a long haul................lots of readin' to go thru!!!

Quit the thinking and go get the dang thing. You will not regret it. Very smooth and excellent power band.
Again.
What are you waiting for?

What he said. Get the 3/4 wrap, big doggies and the big oiler.
Then go make a mess. Report back.

Well, let me rephrase the question...

I have read a lot of the posts already on this forum. Some have said they want to try it. Others want to wait until it has been proven. Others want to stay with the old tried and trued.

My question is to those of you running the 441 and especially those who have been running them along side the 460. Whereas the weight is the same and price about the same would I be better to buy the 460? Or are the rumors correct that the 441 has such a wicked power curve that it almost matches the 460 with the advantage of the vibration control, fuel consumption....????

Does it have the torque to sink a full 25" bar?

This is what he told me a long time ago when I was kicking this same question around. I can't tell you if it is better than any of the same class saws out there, because this is the biggest saw I have ever owned or ran.

I do like my saw and have been pleased with my purchase. No buyer's remorse or anything. Kinda nice.;)

Oh yeah, one more thing; This saw eats wood!! And very smoothly I might add.

What are you sinking the bar into?? I turned it loose on a 20" Beech with no problem. It bores Hemlock with ease, and leaps tall buildings in a single bound. Okay, maybe not the building bounding thing.

I am running the 25" bar.

I like it. It is smooth, gets good mpg's and yep, it'll pull a 25" bar. Mine came with a 28" and RSF. Only complaint I have is it gets dirty too fast.

In the big class we have a few big cottonwoods, spruce, etc... Not much of the hardwoods but some of this stuff can get a bit gummy. I'd get it with a 25" to spin the same bar and chain as my 361. It's meat and taters would probably be in the 18" class pine.

I would like to run the Stihl 441 and Shindaiwa 757 side-by-side. I have noticed a LOT of people talk about how great brand X saw is, or how it is better/worse than brand Y. I think you folks in the more populated areas need to run saws head-to-head and make some videos at your GTGs to share with us all. Personal prefrence and brand loyalties tend to run deep.

The 757 is a fine saw but the 441 turns faster in the wood and is lighter!

Very mixed reviews on it here

I couldn't figure it out at first. Here its a hated saw, a real POS (not Prince Of Saws by the way). Stihl's dropping customers here like flies to the 7900's and we don't even have a close dealer for Dolmar. From the best I can tell is that you folks living down in the low elevations like these saws and they seem to run comparable to 044/440. Drag one up here (9200 feet above sea level) and its a dog. I'm not talking thenths of a second either, more like twice as slow. Stihl should put some research into this before it kills them.

My brothers shop now has no more 440's, had a logger come in on Monday ready to buy four new 441's. He tried one out on a log in the back, said he wasn't interested and left. GOOD JOB STIHL....... Lost another one.:hmm3grin2orange:

That guy should've given it more of a chance!!!

I ran one for a few days and it was pretty nice.
That said I would like a 461 on the same chassis alot better. or how about a 471?

Yup, waiting for that, even though I have no need for it - the 372xpg is enough overkill already...........:hmm3grin2orange: :hmm3grin2orange:

As I've been looking at them over the past couple days it looks like the 3/4 wrap version has twin dogs while the half wrap only has one set... I've heard people say the 3/4 version is a bit different with the oiler but is that also something different or just the way my local dealer has ordered them in? Anything else different between them that you know?
