im looking at a 372xp or a 575xp that would be bought this coming summer. i know the 372 has been discontinued and the 575 is supposed to be the replacement. i will get either a 24 inch or 28 bar, but most likely a 28 inch bar seeing as most of the trees i will be cutting will be around 24 -26 inches dbh. this saw i would think would have plenty of power. am i on the right track with this choice? i know the 372xp is a great saw. any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Welcome. I have never used a 575, but the saying goes "if it aint broke, dont fix it" Used many 372s, good saw.

Whichever saw you decide on be sure to get the full skip chain on the 28 inch bar. I have a 575 with a 28” and like it.

I run both and like them both. If you are going to get a 372 I would not wait on it. If you are planning on next summer you may not have the option. Either saw will not have a problem with the bar sizes you mentioned. I regularly run 20-24-28" on the 372, and 575. I do run the full skip chain as mentioned on the 28" bar set up.

572 is a epa nightmare in my opinion. i dont know about the new 372 but baileys seem to have new ones. power to weight is awesome in the 372 the 572 just looks funny to me like a camel with a square hump!

Yea your on the right track. Both are good saws. period.
the 372 has a great rep. The 575 just keeps getting better.
You can always check your Jonsered Dealer for the 2171 Also.

i suppose i should add that i am partial to stihl's and was looking at a 440 magnum but seeing as this saw is 80-100 dollars more everywhere i have looked, and only has a 3 month warranty (the husky's have a 2-year), i figured i would just go with a husky. if anyone has any suggestions on other saws to take a look at please let me know. i appreciate the input.

There are alot of people in the forum who recommend the Dolmar saws. The 7300 is close to the 372 or 575. I do not have any personal experience with this brand however. Perhaps someone else could shed some light on this model.:)

The warranty is really a non-issue... Search in AS - it's been thrashed out a few times before..

anyone know typical prices for the dolmar 7300 or 7900, typical problems, good dealer's or parts suppliers in michigan, ohio, indiana or wisconsin, and same for price on the 441?

Im picking up a 441 tomorrow for $699 with 20" B&C.

There is a Dolmar dealer in Potterville. I believe Iver heard the 7900 goes for around $600???

If it is 600, buy it. MSRP on just the powerhead was $689 a couple months ago, but I think prices went up.

I like them both (7900 and 372). If you are thinking about a 372, buy it now while you still can....

I hear that the folks in Ionia are selling 7900s for a hair over $600. And there's supposed to be a dealer in St. Johns, but I haven't rolled up there yet to check 'em out. Where in Michigan are you? You'd be more than welcome to try mine out if you wanted.

At the end of the day I don't think it matters whether you go S, H, J or D. They all make good saws. Go with what you like, what feels right in your hands, and what you can get parts and service for. If this is your only saw, I'd put extra emphasis on considering the brand has the best local dealer support. If you've got other saws, well, then its a different ballgame.

As for problems, there really aren't any glaring ones. Early oiler issues were fixed, and the bar tensioner is a bit odd but works properly once you get used to it. The saws are durable, light, and powerful machines.

most of the cutting i will be doing will be in the upper peninsula, however i travel all over michigan and northern ohio. i have a stihl 290 and it just doesnt have enough power to get through what im going to be cutting. so this would be my main saw. i hadnt heard of dolmar until i started reading some of the postings on this site. they seem to have a great rep, the only problem is the main dealers where i usually am are either stihl or husky.

the purchase wont be made until probably next summer so it seems the 372 might be out of the question. i'd like to hear some thoughts on the husky 575 and also the dolmar 7300

The mantra of this site is to get a 372xp now while you can and there is no way you will have made the wrong choice. I would be curious to hear what the epa is doing with the ports to have more CCs (bailey's latest) and the same HP?

What are you looking for specific to the 575? If you are going to consider the 7300 might as well look at the 7900. Same weight, more power, just a little more money.

My wife just bought me a 372xpg (early Christmas present).

After following AS and other saw forums for a few years, that was the saw I wanted........:)

The MS 441W would have cost more than 20% less here.......
