I was delighted to get SawTroll the saw that he has wanted for a long time. He was bewilered by some of the Stihl guys here for a while, but came to his senses in time.  :ices_rofl:

It sure looks both nice and effective, even though it isn't broken in yet! :rockn: :rockn:

But I have a small problem - the new saw is just a bit heavy for me, so I have started working out with weights, to get my arms stronger.....:greenchainsaw: :yoyo:

have you used a 28" bar? if not you need to before buying one. they wil be excessively long on those saws. yes they will pull them but they wil loose their pleasing handle. 24" wil easily cut 40" stumps. 24" bars are much much easier to handle than 28". as for the power head, either saw wil surfice but the nod goes to the 372. and if you have it woods ported you wil cut w/ a smile. :greenchainsaw: :greenchainsaw: :greenchainsaw:

I believe you are right, I just turned down a very good price at a dealer for a 28" one that was in stock.

I will get a 24" Power Match for the 372, and then I will have 16", 20" and 24" bars for it - that should suffice here......:)

Niko thats exactly like my 372 setup, but I'm planning on an 18" powermatch for it as well :)

I plan on trying a 8 pin sprocket with the 16" at least, when the saw is broken in properly.

Have you tried that???

I've been using a 8 pin with a 20" bar.
Took awhile to get use to. Just let the saw do the work.
Huskys don't like to grunt, they like to run.

Yes, have tested 8 on the 16" bar, but my saw was not broken in at the time so I got to test it again, but it pulled it with out any problems :)

Niko are you going to mod the muffler on it ???
Probably not, it already has enough power for what I will use it for, even though it is not broken in, and the noise level isn't worth speaking of. (nice)......:) :)

.....but maybe I will get another muffler and mod it, just for the he*l of it...:ices_rofl:

I too run a 20" with an 8T rim. Very good combination, but like manual said, let the saw do the work. If you tend to push a lot, you might be better off with the 7T.

Opening the muffler will make them extremely loud, louder than any other saws I have done, but as long as you wear ear protection, it is a pleasant gain in HP.

Good post Greg. It is amazing just going up 4 inches in size and what it does to the balance, weight, and versatility of the saw.

Huhhhhhh.... - never used hearing protection when running saws, my hearing is so bad from Artillery abuse, that that I barely hear them anyway......:jester: :censored:

... and I don't push hard on my saws, so I probably will try an 8-pin with the 20" bar also, once it is properly run in - and maybe an 18" with 8-pin is a sweetspot - we will see, eventually.......

I regularly do use an 8-pin on the MS361, but that is with a 15" bar.......

Agreed. The saw is perfectly balanced with a 20 inch bar. I was surprised how much the balance changed by just going to 24. I use a 20 on it now and only put a 24 inch bar on when needed.

I believe you, but the stock Euro MS361 works great as a limbing saw with an 8-pin and 15" bar - for bucking the jury is still out on 7- or 8-pin.....

I wish they made a 8T rim for my 5100 with the 13" bar. That thing is a screamer!!!

Yep, that would have been interesting - have you checked with GB??????

I looked briefly, but it is the small spline like a small husky, not the mini spline like some stihls. I haven't found one yet, but if anyone runs across one (small spline, 3/8, 8T rim) please let me know.

My brother was looking for one that would fit his 262xpg, and found that he had to change out the clutch (and spline) - I believe Baileys have them for some Huskies, maybe one will fit the 5100 also???????

...I would have asked the Big Dog, on his own forum here......

to reply to the earlier question..... i have only used a 28" bar once on my buddies 440. i would agree that it felt "off-balance". most likely i will get a 24 inch bar. my buddy is getting a 24 incher for his 440 because the 28 is too off balance. as far as the 20 inch goes it will work no question if i make 2 cuts. my buddy suggested getting a 24 and then getting a 16 or 18 incher for limbing. hate to be switchin out bars but i welcome any thoughts on the bar length. powerhead will either be a 440 or 372
