One last thought from the TM

I just came across this letter I wrote to Angie' List, an upscale referral service. It exemplifies the simplicity of word-of-mouth marketing.

WILD CARD

If I won't loose big, I will feel worse for not trying an idea, than doing it and failing small.

Like paying to have landscape value appraisal forms printed. I did this once. Cost $100. I thought dozens of people would want to have the landscape value estimated just like they do with house appraisals. No such deal. Not one person ever called for that. But at least I learned one thing.

With the Celebrity thing, I'd make a complimentary gift certificate for $200 worth of value, and send it to the addresses of those homes. Along with a nice photo of me the owner in a business suit, or shirt, tie and slacks.

The certificate, or coupon would be to cover for about 2 hours of consulting, or 2 hours of pruning / climbing.

It would open the door.

Sometimes the wealthy are a pain. But they only ask for perfection. We can attain that if anyone can!

The reason I'd want a celeb, is to take a photo of the spread and list is on a website. It is like a credential. I like listing the "little" people and the "big" people if possible for references.

$200 is a respectable offer. If the door opens, your in. Then you can offer a similar offer to a neighbor, mentioning having worked for the other, and so on, and so on.

If you don't get rehired - you just were not perfect. But you can list the experience.
