ok so update i bought a 6.5 predator engine.. went cheap until i know this thing is going to perform got it mounted up and put some hyd fluid in the tank fired it up and cycled it a couple times. it was jerky and sluggish then it started to smooth out, bleeding air i suppose well when all was looking good i retracted the ram. this valve has no detent so i bottomed out the cylinder and it killed the motor. so i started it back up sent it down again smooth as can be then when i started to bring it back it acted like it built up pressure and it killed the motor again, if i flip the lever in and out it constantly it will eventually retract with out stalling the motor but if i try to retract it with out teasing it, it will kill the motor every time

I have the 6.5 predator engine from HF and it works alot better than the 5 horse Briggs I was running. I have ran the HF motor for 3 seasons and now going on the fourth. The only problem I have had was the fuel tank mounts broke off. I brazed new brackets onto the tank and I am back to it.

good to hear it will hold up to use. and no that isnt it the machine is plumbed correctly

so i messed with the splitter again tonight and took the filter off of it and looked inside and i have never seen the inside of a filter so twisted up and blown out... changed it and it seems to work ok now. hydraulics are a little jumpy. the pump on it is just a basic vane pump im pretty sure and it doesnt seem to have a whole lot of power

A 6.5 hp predator will not have near the torque of that old long stroke engine. Likely where you are lacking in power.
the flywheel alone on that Wisconsin probably weighs close to what the entire chonda engine weighs...
I have an 18 HP Wisconsin THD on my splitter (twin cylinder flat head)...makes 53 ft. lbs..... weighs ~300 lbs.
a Honda GX630 (20 HP) V twin OHV only makes 35 ft. lbs. and weighs less than 100 lbs.

I don't even look at HP ratings anymore...they're not comparable when replacing an old engine with a new one... but some people just wont listen:dumb::dumb::dumb:

if it was mine i would purchase a new 10 hp engine they don't cost much these days. most you would pay is 300$ for a engine at smallenginewarehouse.com
